    Press releases are usually written to increase public relations but it also adds up to some SEO value if you implement it correctly. Press release lets people know any latest update or achievement or something noteworthy when you post it on other authority websites. Also the backlinks you get is useful for SEO but keep in mind that press release should not be created solely for SEO purpose, press releases is a great way to start an interaction with your target audience.

    I completely agree with @azharSEO . The main purpose of press release is to promote your business/products .
    Example
    If you are running a organization or a small firm , your company has just released a new product . Your task is to announce every one that you have released this product. Hence you need to submit about the product -its features,functionality to several press release sites . Hope you may understood
