What is link baiting?

Guys I want to know "What is link baiting?" and how it's help me..

Suggest me..

 

In a simple language: You write something very unique and interesting which has not been discussed anywhere or discussed very rarely, then people start referring you (your article, by giving linkback) in their articles, posts, discussions, etc. This process of earning links (I didn't say building links ) is called Link Bait

 

Link Bait means that if a content on your site and you know this content is very unique and other sites links because they want to, not because you ask them. Link bait is very positive thing for SEO.

 

Well, Let me tell you the Example.. My website had the articles of Sachin Tendulkar getting retired.. I have write that article at February 2012 and meanwhile on June speculations were there as he will retire at July.. So i get many visitors to that articles and people started to make backlinks, Copy my articles and following to that post, Trackback using wordpress etc.... So that thing was a Bait for me...
