For high competitive keyword we can go with competitor analysis process by tacing our competitor's backlink and post our link on it to get effective results. There are also more tools available to do competitor analysis
i generally start by optimising for the long tail versions of high competitive keywords or going for lower competition keywords that are relevant and contain part or all of your main keywords.
