    A Trackback is pretty much:
    Lets say you copied a nice tutorial on how to reset your windows password from BlogX on your Blog called BlogY.
    When you Publish your Post on BlogY, wordpress(and others) will automatically Ping BlogX saying "Hey i posted your content on this website".

    It will gives an idea to viewers how many people bookmarked your content along with link, also user can know how much worth it by seeing trackback. Hope you got my answer, any suggestion or questions please paste here.

    I think, it is useful to the webmaster, whose link is tracked back, whose link is posted on other site...

    I'm sure your link build be shared....not a copy of your content or part of your content, or para graph etc... it is your link which is published on other websites.
