Hi Friends, I have a question regarding SEO that what is 301 redirection and how it is beneficial for SEO.
In the simplest of "technical definitions", a 301 redirect is a permanent redirect from one URL to the other. For example, if your previous website was www.awesomewebsite.com and you wanted to change it to www.reallyawesomewebsite.com , you'd implement a 301 redirect from the old URL to the new one. Now whoever typed in your old URL (or clicked on a leftover link to your old URL), would automatically appear at your new URL.
It tells the search engines that you moved from an old domain to new domain and please reserve the domain authority and links from the old domain. In other words it won't affect your sites search engine position after the domain migration.
301 is a kind of redirection that is SEO friendly and one of the biggest advantage is that it also pass on the PageRank value and hence preserves the current search engine rankings for that particular page. For more details you can read here 301 redirection techniques
OK... here's what it really does more than anything. 301 redirect means you're permanently moving the pages to a new location - such as what you're trying to do. There are other redirection codes such as a 302 redirect which is temporarily moving something. It lets the search engine (and others) know what your intentions are regarding the redirection. As to page rank, that is supposedly passed at Google but nobody knows for sure exactly how much.
Hi, 301 redirect is the most effective and Search Engine Friendly process for web page redirection. It is a permanent redirection. If you want to move your old domain to new domain permanently then you can use 301 redirection. If you want to merge two websites then you can use 301 redirection.
