You can always speed up the process. You just need a backlink from a page that Google visits regularly. The best way to do this are Social Media sites. Submit your article page (*URL!) in Twitter for example and in most cases your website will be indexed in less than an hour! Also, Social Bookmarking sites are another way to get this fast... According to me, do NOT ping your article page when you had added new content and do it the natural way!
As long as your posts are being indexed within a day then I wouldn't worry about it. That isn't bad at all. As your site gets more authority the indexing will be faster and faster.
Trent is right on the money again. Google generally indexes high volume and higher authority sites much more quickly than the rest of the blogopshere. And you shouldn't worry about a day of indexing unless your site is news and time-sensitive, which would mean you're probably putting out many articles anyways.
