    Leave the old commenting method and try guest posting,submit your website to authority websites like technorati.If you want to comment then link any one post of your website to get maximum exposure.Try to comment on Google webmaster central blog it gives 19 different backlinks with one comment.Use pinterest and twitter to get do follow links.

    Use fresh or quality content for your site and use user-friendly design and content for website. You can promote your business on social sites like Facebook, twitter, LinkedIn etc...
    Do seo tasks like directory submissions, social bookmarkings, forums, blog commenting, artcile submission, etc. But always do submissions on high PR sites, it is helpful to create quality backlinks.

    You can create high quality backlinks from all Off-page activities by going for those website which are of your niche and of high quality that means their PR and DA must be good because Google hates bad backlinks and all backlinks should be created in natural way.

    Agree with you but few of these should only be used for second/third layer backlinks.e.g. blog comments and forum profiles.

    Try to get Social Signals and High PR relevant backlinks, better to concentrate quality backlinks instead of quantity backlinks. Anchor diversity is also very very important.

    Just do something unique, different and completely opposite to your competitors. Write sensationalist stuff and have the opposite opinion to provoke conversation.

    Linkbait using ego (i.e. mention folks in your industry), for example "10 Reasons Rand Fishkin Knows NOTHING About SEO". Guaranteed to get some folks riled up.

    Also you can do some news jacking. Pay attention to the news and come up with stories based on popular topics. If Britney Spears goes mental and shaves her head again, send her a wig and do some PR to let people know you've helped her out in her moment of need.

    You gotta think beyond directories, guest posting and paid links and get creative.
