Normally, I don't mind the rep system, giving people rep for something I like is actualyl kinda fun.. I like to think that maybe it will make them smile, and they'll know I actually appriciated the help..

I got red repped once for bumping a thread, I didn't agree that I was bumping it but well life goes on..

I got red repped once because someone said I made a dupe thread... Again, life goes on :p

Kinda like a traffic ticket, sometimes you did it, and u shrug.. guess I deserved this one..

Sometimes you didn't do it, and it pisses you off, but later on ya just have to figure that you were probably due, for the ones you got away with.

The name calling that comes with the reps is way outa line though. I've only seen a couple, and when I got the first one.. I was deffinately shocked.

I'm just not a mean type person, and I can't imagine intentionally affonting people that way. But each their own I suppose..

But today, I got a new one, and I know the best idea is supposed to be not to talk about these things, and I'll probably have a slew more of them tomorrow, I can see the reasons for allowing people to remain anonomouys, but if it means that they get to say things like this to others, without the other person even knowing who they are ...

    it's just trash...

Thats in responce to This Thread and way outa line.

Ouch. That was dang out of order, but it was probably someone who is competeing against you which did this. Just ignore it....... They are obviously losing money while you are gaining money. Rep is priceless, they lose -1 for that spam, and you lose -1 for that. Nobody wins, except you.

Green day for you from me!

I never actually gave a thought to it being a competitor, I think I'll go with that, that makes being spoken to that way sting a bit less..

    Thnx :)

I also had my shares of bad reputation that I felt was unfair. But well, that's life here on DP, there may sometimes be someone that just does not like you and you get a bad rep for it. Sometimes something said like a joke to you, may be very offensive to others. But I do not know how is the right and wrong way to talk and post. I just try to be kind and more careful with my jokes. And hope it does not offend anyone.

Life isn't fair, on DP or anywhere, sometimes it's great, and everything is wonderful, sometimes it just plain sucks. I don't want anyone to get the wrong idea, your opinion is yours whether I like it or not, you're entitled.

I didn't start the thread because I disagree with the opinion, I started the thread because I strongly disagree with the deliverance of the opinion.

In answer to this person, no I don't suppose you do, but yes someone does need to know when members of a community are using the system to throw rude langauge and insults around that would not be allowed anywhere else in the forum.

Nothing we can do about these people. You should report this to shawn. He is the only one who can help you with this....

You are also confusing reputation with infractions.

Red Reps will, eventually, show in your public profile.

Red infractions will, eventually, result in a temporary ban.

I'd like to think that infractions don't come with abuse. Any mod can investigate infractions. Only Shawn can investigate reputation points.

The best advice, though, is to move on. If you are a useful contributor to the forum your greens should outweigh the reds many times over.

I completely agree to this. Just don't mind those red reps. If they are really offensive, let shawn know about it and he'll take care of it. Just continue posting and be nice. That should earn you more green. :D

It can be frustrating, I agree, especially with strange or insulting comments like that one (I got a red rep once from a totally innocent post and the comment the person left me was "finger banging"--haha?) but overall the system seems to work so even though it's annyoing, don't let it get you down. Usually the kind of people that leave ridiculous bad reps don't have much rep-giving-or-taking-power any way :)

Just hide the window that shows the rep message and go on with your life, that’s what I do.

Pfft - I know it's frustrating for you, because people who red rep you just want to be.....well I am sure we all know what word to fill in. I even got a red rep just for my Gir Avatar. lol Oh well just move on is the best bet.

That seems to be the majority opinion here, in fact i got 1 red rep from this thread that just said 'horrible' and I'm still not sure if he meant the thread was horrible, or the quote from the first post was horrible and just didn't understand the rep system.. and in those cases..

Yes I agree, move on and ignore it.

In the case of abusive and intolerable language with a red rep, I disagree.
