Business web app idea

I have this idea for a web app and not sure if it would be good idea and if I would have a big enough market to be worth it.

I'm a programmer and was thinking of creating a web app where a freelancer or small web design shop could manage their client as well as web projects. It would include all phases of project development cycle (planning, design, dev, testing, maintenance) as well as invoicing, estimates, contracts... The app would be downloadable as a one time fee for maybe $100 or a fee per month not sure yet.

    What do you guys think?

There are a lot of tools that handle some of the different aspects of what you mentioned above.. But I am yet to find one that does it all - so it could be good

Sounds like a good idea, If you decide to go through with it think a lot about the UX, If you make something easy to use AND powerful, then you got yourself a damn good product sir!
I'd recommend watching some Tutorials on UX Design( this one is good, but it's not free) or actually hiring an UX Engineer(or whatever they are called), It will definitively be worth it.
Good luck with your app, and be sure to give us updates on your progress :)

That's great news! Me and my friend were on the fence. This gives us a bit more motivation.

I assume like me, people would prefer a one time fee instead of per month?

You will earn recurring income with monthly fees, but I believe that less people will use it because of that, but if you have a list that you are managing, ask them with a simple survey, you can use Google Drive to make a simple survey.

You could also ask the forum for input on that.

like your idea. Seems like a project management app. But you should focus on some basic features first.
(New on DigitalPoint, hope it helps.)

Sounds like a plan, but you better be ready to face the music. There are tons of developers and established business web-apps already doing it for professionals. What different would you develop?

I'm thinking more and more about this project and I've decided to go forward with this. How will I be different? I intend to focus on very small (1-2 employee) to small (5-10 employee) freelance businesses and provide a very easy and minimal clean interface. I intend to build it in .net so I will be charging per month since freelancers in .net is not a big market. What would be cool is to have a community to test during the alpha/beta stages.

    App Features:
    - Client invoicing
    - Custom branding
    - Freelance contract management
    - Freelance proposal management
    - Bug management
    - Simple project management (tasks, deadlines, milestones...)
    - Template system for bills, emails, contracts, proposals...
    - Multilingual (start with English/French)
    - Compatibility with other apps to import your data

This is what I have in mind. I intend to start small with the most important features and build from there.
