What is the single best way to get placed highly on Google?

For instance is it links like everyone says or only on-page stuff? If there was only one thing you would do what would it be? (Assuming a decently informative page).

Just a new guy really just looking for advice and some input...

Interest, the best way to make your website ranks high on Google is interest. If you are interested in something, and you make a website for it, you can put lots of things on your website, share fun with other, both visitors and Google like that. And slowly links to your site will grow, and ranks of your site will move to the top.

 

The single most effective thing at the moment is link building. And one of the best ways to get the right type of links is to follow the advice of the above poster. Have interest in your topic, go out and build relationships with other websites and blogs, and eventually try to build links that add value to the people who see them.

 

If you mean literally the "single best way", it would be to get a "followed" link to your page from a very high-trust, high-authority, high-PR webpage.

Dear if you're not an expert, I recommend you outsource to an expert (especially in SEO off page work). Please spend some spare time doing research on seoclerk or Fiverr and find the best guy that can help Seo your site. All your work now is just creat the best content as you can. Create new content --> Seo off--> Create new content --> Seo off: it's exactly what I'm doing and got good result.

If you're not good at writing too, on fiverr and seoclerk also provide many services of writing (about 1-2 articles (500 words) for $5, depeding on different sellers)

Content is a great thing to start with. The more content you have the better. Keep updating that content on a regular basis too.

 

There are heaps of sneaky ways (blackhat SEO) but it's really easy to get in trouble with google when using these tactics, which will cause you to lose rankings, get penalized or just never rank in the first place. Feel free to research it and go ahead and decide what approach you wish to take, but as with all things if you put in the hard work now and build links the right way the benefits will definitely out-way the time

Had to disagree big times! why on earth would you advise the OP to get a (self-claimed) expert from Fiverr/seoclerk !!! In SEO and link building and expert wont be working for a couple of bucks, even in the worst paying countries!

Now, to answer your question Clifffonte, there is no silver bullet or a single thing that you do and the SERP's are yours. Anyone who tells you otherwise, is not actually helping you in anyway.

The simple question here, is if you're building a site to keep? If your answer is yes, then get to work cause the road is long. If not, and if you're looking for some kind of a short term "hit-and-run" ranking boost then go buy some links and cash in.

It would some day........ But you will also have to SEO your network so that these links have some weight = ineffective...
Otherwise, there is no single way for me.
Make sure all on-page SEO is OK as is content. Then build some quality links (most likely buy them - carefully). I mean very niche related links, not sitewide, if possible among another authority links (let's say wikipedia), and in-content.
Also diversify your anchor texts! Even with some that are not the keywords you are willing to rank for, like "visit us here".

If you build a site on a niche that you are passionate about, the rest will fall in its proper place. To answer your question, I do not agree there is only one thing you can do to make a website rank in Google better. It's a combination of a lot of things such as being on the right niche, putting out great content, marketing your site well, using the right keywords through a thorough keyword research and a lot more.

 

Ranking in google is hard work man! And you must be willing to work hard and not look for a secret formula for success! There is just no such thing...
