With the recent Gogole changes and updates and for the incoming updates one must focus seriously on onpage SEO since most sites banned by google were all because by offpage SEO which includes spammy backlinks and etc. If you want to rank your site then the first thing you have to take care of is having a great content. Just write unique and original content. Don't just copy or rewrite what's already been published. It is also important to include headline tags on your pages. Repeating the keywords 2 or three times throughout the article is also another good point. Don't overload your article with keywords;its clearly spamming. If you are having a niche site, create related posts or pages then each of them should have a link back to your main page.

Create Quality Meta tags Information regarding Google Guide lines. and follow Google SEO starter guide for quality on-page activity.
Reduce Page Load time, give proper 301 redirection for creating a better landing page for visitors. Set up Google web master tools for analyze website status & errors. also start a blog for regular basis quality content upload. And many small- small things in on-page activity, like as use h1, h2, h3...tags, bold tag, title tag, alt tag, author tag, image size & image optimization etc.

if we give importance every small things in on-page activity then we must do quality website optimizations.

Onpage SEO is fairly simple. Get a good plugin for your CMS and follow the guide.
Offpage, just use article syndication and you'll be golden.
