Pretty good for 18?

Well, I'm just wondering... Every time I mention my age here on the forum, or to someone in real life, and explain the knowledge I have with computers, their surprised. Here's a list of what I can do, so tell me what you think... I'm curious.

• Code, and Design a website.
• Familiar with PHP, JS, HTML, CSS, and some AJAX.
• Can find site vulnerabilities such as SQLi, and LFI.
• Good with marketing, such as PPD, and Affiliate marketing.
• I know how to build a computer, and know good builds for different types of usage.
• I can code a little bit in Python, and VB. Which is for program sided things.

That's pretty much the main, basic information. Thoughts?

 

Well I can light up like a Christmas tree, sprout wings and fly. Do you believe me? If not why not? After all I put it in writing, so it must be true right?

 

Ehh to be honest, I really don't care if you don't believe me. Let me re-phrase this... If someone was 18, with the skills listed above, how would you feel?

 

I actually find it a bit annoying when someone is mentioning their age all the time. Nobody cares.

 

Fair enough...I would be impressed. But I would believe it if I witnessed it, as seeing is believing.

 

Like they were full of shit and it was well past their bedtime

 

How is it that they're surpised?

And how many times has this strange occurence happened? Is it something that you have observed happens for any particular reason's or sequences of things leading to it, or does it just happen at certain times of the week, or month, or day?

I am kidding btw...

 

I find it funny people underestimate others. As long as you put time, dedication, and effort into something, it's easy to learn and keep going from there.

Many people don't even know what SQL, SQLi, HTML, CSS, AJAX, and so on is. They've never heard it. I've taken AP classes in highschool (which I just graduated from), and I know even more now. I'm familiar with JS, and now Java it's self. The computer was started with Binary, but now we have GUI interfaces on the computer. I'm sure there are others my age who know even more than me. Just remember that.

 

Look knobhead, you don't have to tell me about dedication, i don't like mentioning my age but here goes, im 46 and dedicated my life to being a builder from when i was 16...30 years later i'm retired, own my own house, a nice car and my family want for nothing...don't assume at a mere 18 years old that you know it all because in reality you actually know jack shit.

 

Oh trust me, I'm far from 'knowing it all'. However, so are you. Even your grammar. Just saying. Before you come on a forum, calling someone a 'knobhead' and acting superior to others, you should know what you're saying before hand. I'm very proud of what I've accomplished, and only trying to accomplish more. I'm glad you're successful in life, and I hope that you're happy.

 

I would say try do something with it and stop talking about it and try and stop letting others wind you up and well apply what you have the gist of and hang on for what's best and find your direction...

 

OP we probably would be far more impressed if with your expertise, you also possessed a tiny bit of humility.
If you indeed have all this knowledge at the tender age of 18, then good on you. But don't seek approval rather go for self respect instead, it's worth far more.

 

I completely agree, and understand. However, I didn't post this to insult or brag. I wanted serious feedback, and thoughts. That's all. However, if people don't believe me, frankly, I don't care. I just wanted thoughts.

 

Nothing special as these days plenty know as much or more. I admire someone such as malky66 as he's a person who just gets on with it and achieves and he has achieved a lot. I also admire that he went from building trade to coder (I would think that some of the same skills apply - such as being able to see how something is put together, troubleshooting and analysis are involved - but then what you're actually doing is different, so it just again shows how he's a "doer").

Good on you if you have some skills, now put them to use for something with a point (that will make you money). It's like these SEOs who brag about ranking for keywords that no one ever searches. Pretty much well pointless except for themselves.

 

For OP: Few years ago when I was at 17, I didn't bother to do anything else rather than keep learning and learning.
The activity make me better than the rest of my friends. I was not the best student in my area. Being the second best student in my city wasn't that bad either.
I wish everyone especially my student didn't do the same mistake again. If I could go back to the past, I'll learn on how to build personality and not only skills/knowledge. I should respect all people.

This is what I have learnt from my past:
"Keep low and you'll understand if life is not only about skills. It is about how we use our knowledge to build character. Being smart is good but being wise is better. Don't tell people about your skills, let them measure it by themselves"

For OP, you are very young and have lots of 'awesome' skills. You must be really proud of it. Let's think it as a gift and use it to make yourself even better. You can start now by helping people solve their problems. Use your 'awesome' skills and knowledge to make them proud of you. There are so many questions each day in this forum. I believe most of them will be really happy if you decide to help them.

I respect your post a lot. Thank you for this. That's why I decided to come to this forum, and even buy premium. I've helped a few people so far, and even started working on a project. So now, I'm basically freelancing, and making some good money. However, many people look down upon me, and feel superior, because I'm 18. When in reality, I most likely know more than them. I don't usually just through my age out there, but sometimes they ask, and of course, I tell them. I just want people to know, there are younger people with great skills, and they need to own up to the fact that a new generation is coming in, with mostly technology skills.

 

Congrats on the skills, you still have much to learn but luckily you have an early start. My friends son is 3 and knows how to download applications on his iPad and navigate most of the electronics in the house already.

I really wish I was born a few years earlier, I would be more ahead.

 

My wife's best friend's daughter has had her own smart phone since 2 and she's now three and has a tablet. Kid these days seem to have a natural instinct for it. Imagine what they will be capable by the time they hit ten? Hell, the "Facebook killer" could be developed by one of them.
