can i sell ad space on my site?

I have recently opened a dating niche blog! It is going really well in the last 7 days we got over 5 thousand unique views and 14 thousand page views according to google analytics!
We are about to start a big advertisement campaign! We are looking to get about 3/4 thousand unique views a day!

would it be hard to get some people to advertise on the site? On either rotational add? Or only you add? there are 3 add spaces that can all be rotated! Do you think i should wait a few months then try and get people to advertise? or just be really cheap and get some people now?

If you hit big numbers the advertisers will contact you. Make it visible on your site how much these ads would cost. Begin with adsense, the big guys will contact you if you have a lot of visitors.

Start out by posting within forums and marketplaces similar to DP, to gauge interest. As you continue to grow, like robby states above, advertisers may begin to contact you directly.

Sweet views you've got there Oli! The traffic on your blog would be a good gauge on the kind of advertisers you could get. There's really no specific number. Some people say that you can start advertising once you hit 250 unique visitors a day - but of course, that will land you tiny little ads that yield you a couple of dollars a month. My old blog used to average 1.3k unique visitors a day and i was doing advertorials for $250 a blogpost. If you're getting over a thousand unique views a day, why not start advertising? No harm in starting out small! Hitting 3-4k unique views a day would bring in the bigger guns and doubling or tripling that would bring advertisers knocking on your door.

I say just go with it ;)

And that is really good! I would love to get into the advertising side of websites see if i can earn some money!

    Thank you very much

Congratulations for your blog Oli, yes you will have a lot of advertisers who will contact you, don“t worry for that :) . As my experience tough me the advertising industry is very competitive and if you visit some social media (Forums, LinkedIn..) you will realize that the advertisers come naturally to the publishers.

    :p Good idea Branko!

As you can see Oli there are a lot of affiliate network who are and will be interested by your offer...

So, I advice you to analyze carefully, in a smart way the different offers you will have. So that the partnership and the relationship you will have with your advertisers will be fruitful.

I am sure you will manage to do it. ;)

I am not interested by if I was I'd ask what your page bounce rate is like. Blogs can be tricky in a sense that people like to browse them, but if they stay on the page for 3 seconds it will be hard for advertisers to get any good ROI by having their ads there.

As it has been suggested, try it out with AdSense. If the CTR is decent, like 5-20%, then you can easily use that number to market your advertising space.
