Probably because it would be open to all sorts of abuse, one member doesn't like another so goes through all his posts clicking the "dislike" button

Limiting ones actions to a few dislikes per day and restricting multiple dislikes on the same target (user, thread, post) could be a solution to that.

Receiving a dislike isn't something one should be happy about and I'm not an exception.

I get you, I sometimes miss negative rep, too. However, malky66 makes a very good point.

Maybe someday, but it would be something that would have to be built custom. And would most likely be similar to how we allowed people to give negative rep on the old system. Like if you "Dislike" something, you lose one like of your own... so then they become a bit of a currency and also stops people from abusing it.

Dislike button will bring a lot of troubles, cause when I call someone ''retarded person'' he can give me a dislike for being right..And I don't want to get dislikes for being right...

the end is nigh then eh...

eg neg rep was why I stopped posting previously as it's easy to suck up, but people gang up against a bit of truthful so called negativity, as people only want to hear what they want to hear & not the truth.

I for one would stop posting once that gets put in place, but then that is probably a good thing anyway so no loss there LOL.

I prefer the current solution. If you dislike the post, don't like it

I used to get occasional negative reps in the old system but it never hurt me and I don't mind getting a few more at all because I understand when you are on a discussion forum you can't expect everyone to agree with you.
I am a supporter of negative rep/dislike feature. Because there are lots of trolls, dumb people, sick minds etc on these forums. It is community's best defense against trolls. There are lots of them out there. In the old system trolls used to get kicked out from P&R and lost their Marketplace privileges due to negative rep so it was very useful. Now there is no such system in place.

So you are saying that you were the truth teller and there was some sort of conspiracy to out you and the gang succeeded because you ended up taking a break from the forum. I think it is unlikely. When someone gives you red it costs them a whole reputation point too. That's how old system worked. So you must have done something special to get that sort of attention.

No not at all it's that any negative comment disagreeing seemed to get jumped on and neg repped in the old system depending if you offended one person with a comment they or their friends didn't like for example..

The system could easily be played now for example. as it would be all too easy to take the joke approach to things to get likes if you think about it. Not that it is really important at the end of the day it's only a forum after all but it could easily be played IMHO.

Yep... It could easily get played. But *if* (huge if) we were to ever implement such a system down the road, I suspect it would end up very difficult to "play" considering someone giving a dislike would lose one of their OWN likes to do so as a "cost". It worked fairly well with the rep system... But just to be clear, there are no plans to do it at this point... About 5,000 more important things to work on.
