Need Help With New Website - Yumalicious.com

Discussion in 'General Business' started by bartainer, Jul 3, 2013.

Greetings - I realize that there are many restaurant listing websites on the internet and this idea is no exception ...except the domain yumalicious (yummy and delicious) appears to be a hit due to the originality and ease.

I'd like to take this to the next level and the script I am using allows ALL owners listing (e.g., restaurant, pubs, bars) to control his/her listing ..unlike other sites (e.g., urbanspoon). Each owner (person who does the listing) receives a private dashboard and this dashboard allows he or she complete control (add more photos, change hours, specials) and much more.

    1. Should I charge a fee, because free seems to be cheap (not inexpensive)
    2. If so, is $35 per month unreasonable. Keep in mind, each listing is a minnie web site.
    Thanks,
    Ron

The domain name rocks! I can almost see your site hitting big in a few months, if you keep vigorously promoting it.

I am not sure if I am a big fan of your current design. Just this morning I happened to visit http://www.yelp.com and I thought it could be beneficial for you to check them out (as far as how they structure their categories and the type of options they have). They've been doing this since 2004, so plenty of experience there.

On our classifieds, we charge people for featuring their listings and it's working well. I think you're already doing that and, for us, it's been the way to go. You may also want to consider charging people for listing their businesses in more than just one location. Some business owners have their shops or restaurants in different cities - you can benefit from that as well.

Thank you! I actually back ordered the name and crossed my fingers because I chose the name for my business too.

I'm wondering if I should stick to hospitality and if not - how can I sell the ads to non-hospitality business owners and how much?

    Again, thanks.

Obviously, with the name like yumalicious you'd think you'd need to stick to local eateries and bars. But I don't think you should restrict yourself to just that. It's a good place to start though. You can sell more ads though if you create possibilities for people to list businesses that have some kind of connection to local eateries, such as:

    lodging
    resorts
    cruises
    vacation spots
    casinos
    entertainment (hollywood and so forth)

If I may offer another suggestion, give an option to choose a country and a city for both posters and visitors. I know it's a lot of work and maybe you will even need to make and integrate a script that will allow to easily generate countries / cities, but I think it will do you a lot of good, particularly if you want your business to compete on a bigger scale.

Once you feel like your site is good to go, give AdWords a try. Business owners are constantly looking for new ways to advertise. Granted you will be competing with sites like manta.com and yelp.com, but I think you can still gain some decent following and customer base.

The script allows countries, but I'd like to start small too! :)

The name is a "roll of your tongue" name and it does offer options.

What about pricing? I am confused on what to charge; however, the script GEO Theme does allow packages and maybe I should give a FREE package to those who want to list a business but with less attributes (e.g., no photos, web address, or specials).

The domain at one time was blacklisted by the previous owner and since it has a new site. BUT, I have Avast and it's okay here so it's on your end.

I got blocked by mcafee when trying to visit the homepage. I do love your URL though, great branding opp. I do think the website design could have a cleaner, more organized feel to it, though.

I like the idea of having different pricing plans, like said earlier. Maybe restrict certain things certain packages. Maybe only one photo or shorter description, something like that with the freemium model.

Yes, to second paragraph and I like freemium. Maybe 1 photo, no web site listing and no specials.

Sorry about the blocking, but even Google says good.

McAfee does list it as being malicious and I just sent a request to have this removed! I can assure you, the site is good and it was tested by Sucuri SiteCheck and it is Maleware clean!

Now, back to business! Quickad, you mentioned hotels ...can you be specific on how you'd approach a hotel, cruises or resorts?

Good domain, but I would work on colors. It is a little bit annoying to the eyes to have a red (this type of red).

I would go with free for now.

People are not into paying for listing unless you can prove for them, it is more worthy to post on your website than sites like yelp ( where it is free )

I would start charging fee for featured on the main page. This way if a store want to get more exposure, they can get it for a price ;)

The easiest route would be creating separate categories for each one of them (like in a drop down menu or a list of categories on a separate page). You don't have to necessarily look for specific businesses to get promoted on your site, if you offer them an option to advertise their stuff, they will find you.

I also agree with poster above. Offer your services free first. Maybe charge for featured ads (a small fee like $5 or $10), allow them to stay featured for 1-2 months, that way it will add businesses an incentive to feature their stuff over and over again.

Great and I agree with both! :) Featured listing charge a small fee then as the site gets more reputable charge a greater fee.

I did study colors for this site and red represents hunger (i.e., McDonald's, Burger King and Wendy's). Red creates excitement and the need to eat. ;)
