    SEO Quake is a great free plugin for analyzing first page competition. No such thing as a good keyword research tool: they all pull similar results. You're better off doing it by hand and understanding how to read first page competition. Longtail Pro can be good for analyzing keyword/first page competition once you've identified the keywords on your own though.

    Try Moz.com which has different seo tools for your research. opensiteexplorer.com & backlinkwatch.com are the best backlink analysis tool. For the keyword research use the Google Adwords Keyword Tool.

    Firefox browser has so many SEO addons which work for SEO tool, and all the tools at one place so this is really a good thing I would say.

    Hey if you want to go for backlink analysis then there are certain tools available in market like opensiteexplorer, majestic seo, a href and many others you can go for any of them.

    SEO quake is a good SEO tool... Backlinkwatch is a great tool to investigate webmaster's backlinks! Also... Market Samurai is perfect for keyword research! :)

    I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Majestic SEO. It's great for analyzing your competitors and their backlinks. Shows trust flow and citation flow and maps them (which is mainly what google uses to determine page rank). I believe they have both free and paid options.
