I decide on a niche first before looking for keywords. I usually look at Google Trends for what is fast gaining popularity, but mostly, I pick niches that I am interested in. Once I have picked a domain name, I then look at products to promote. I get my keywords off the sales pages of these products.

Hope that helps. Have a good day!

Having a goal in mind is one of the easiest ways to increase page ranks. It is like having a set of words that is not too broad yet not too specific. Keywords that is related to what you want to expose. For an instance you are to promote something about your online gaming website, probably you would write blogs about it, or even the description of your website will use it. It has a focus "online gaming website" you can use, games, gaming, online games, etc. as your keywords.

Hi, The keywords which have high search volume & low in competition are the best too. You can also choose long tail keywords so that you can rank top easily, But choose the keywords for your site that is best for your business.

I use the free Google adwords tool to get the results and export into Excel. From there I can narrow it down to a smaller set of terms. Then finally I export them into Long Tail Pro software and do my final research there.

Another technique I use is to collect the keywords on a list. Then I run them through the Google Keyword Tool or Traffic Travis. I add the global monthly searches value next to the keywords. This way, I am able to keep track of which of my prospective keywords have the high or low global monthly searches. This helps me prioritize better keywords over lesser ones.

Hope that helps. Have a good day!
