I was wondering if webmasters these days still dependent on google or are they focusing on Facebook traffic as well. For me i am getting good traffic from Facebook than i use to get from google. So i would say facebook. After those goole animal updates i have stopped making seo and all other stuff but more working on Facebook Marketing. Can we say The next big alternate to google is Facebook?
Google is search and Facebook is social network. You can't compare them directly. And no - search will allways be the largest traffic source. Of course, there are exceptions. Websites that get more traffic from FB than Google. But it's mostly because their business is specific. And they probably didn't pay enough attention to Google. SEO is getting harger, true. But SEO is only one among many inbound marketing methods. Focus more on content and both - search and social will work for you.

On top of that Google's changes were made so that they could charge businesses to appear on the first page in Google's FREE searches (that's what I understood from a couple of articles I read). For Google to prepare those pages they had to "clean up" their free search results. Some websites that dominated their first page found themselves in a crapper overnight. I can see how gut-wrenching this can be. But by letting the big dogs to dominate their free searches Google has made an extremely profitable move. Like it or hate it, but it is what it is. I think it's genius.
Facebook can bring traffic instantly, no waiting on spiders and updates. Give people something to talk about and many will share it. It really can be more powerful than search because the people who are sharing are people they trust.
Google anyday of the week, its there longterm, anything with facebook is old within a few hours and the posts get flooded etc, google works for me, and its what i use!
Some people find facebook works better for them than other traffic sources. All we need to do is, find the traffic sources that work best for us and use them to our advantage. Google is not the right choice for everyone. I think
if your site is well on-page optimized then the traffic from google should be much more bigger, because it searches even through facebook and other social network sites.
