Hi, im looking to start web codeing and was hopeing someone could recomend what is the most saught after skill at the moment and any usefull resorces which would be helpfull to me for learning this skill.

For the time being I will probably just be a part time freelancer to see how I get on and build up a portfolio so if anyone can recomend any sites to get work etc i would appreciate it.

HTML, xHTML, PHP, MySQL and Wordpress coding. I also use some Javascript when it's easier to do something in that language.

What I would like to know is wether its feasible to freelance web coding or realisticaly do I need to design aswell? because design realy isnt my strong point. If it is feasible what is the most saught after coding skill at the moment and what would be the best way to get a portfolio of my coding projects out there?

    Thanks again

Yes. I don't design either. People usually send you a PSD and say they need it spliced and coded into HTML/PHP, so you do need Photoshop and need to know how to cut slices, but let me know if I can help with that.

What I do is look at developer market places and determine what is the most popular technology, type of script and what people are paying for what types of scripts.

So for example, if I go to hotscripts dot com ( probably the biggest place to sell your scripts ) I can see the following which gives me an idea of what is popular (Note the HTML5., this is a new trend worth looking into):

    • Ajax (432)
    • ASP (2,980)
    • ASP.NET (1,879)
    • C and C++ (520)
    • CFML (273)
    • CGI and Perl (3,520)
    • Flash (5,991)
    • HTML5 (253) [IMG]
    • Java (1,827)
    • JavaScript (3,708)
    • PHP (17,109)
    • Python (149)
    • Ruby on Rails (101)
    • Tools and Utilities (5,036)
    • XML (308)

Good suggestion, thanks. Well if you are not looking precisely for only programming then you can also try internet marketing. This is a well organized field.

Secondly you will love to develop mobile apps for android & iOS.

    Thanks

    Hello
so I would say the top languages to learn is HTML, PHP, MySQL and Wordpress coding. I think if you are good at wordpress alone that would get you some good bucks as a freelancer because of the very high demand and there are not many people who know WordPress yet.

To learn programming i really learned from 2 sites mostly:
    http://thenewboston.org/
    http://www.codecademy.com/ for the basics.

I have learnt html and css from both and started javascript but I really wanna do wordpress.

If you want tips on freelancing check my blog: http://elancefreelancing.blogspot.com/
I really did some good money in a short period of time.
