New Google Update!?

I don't know if anyone knows how to work with the new Google update (in the past couple of days), but we have 4 websites that were ranking in top 2 pages, now 1 is still in #1 spot, 1 is on page 5 with another on page 8 but one is no where in top 20 pages - OMG!

We have done nothing spammy, all content is unique and is written for readers NOT search engines. We have used varied keywords including LSI keywords, related keywords and generic kw such as view here, click here, www. domain dot com

Once we had 1 site in position #1 we replicated what we did to get the others ranking high, but now it seems as though something has gone crazy with Google - AGAIN!!

Can you share how you intend on working with the new update?

Given that Google makes ~500 changes to the ranking algorithm each yr, then it is pretty safe to assume that was an update yesterday; and probably one today as well; and there will most likely be another one tomorrow.

There will always be an algo update. I suggest you give it a few days and if you're still showing the same, then you might want to take a look at what you competitors have that they're ranking over you.

Have you looked at your backlinks as well? Maybe you have a few negative ones that are affecting the site? Maybe you have less backlinks than your competitor. Do you have a strong social media presence? If you don't, then make sure to be proactive in social media. Doing so not only helps you get more traffic to the site, it also lets you engage your target market and get your site known.

Hope that helps. Have a good day!

Based on google algorithm updates, the fluctuation happened in ranking. Check with backlinks if any spammy or unnatural links then remove it. And then you can also checking in google webmasters. It may help you to understand and rectify this issues

Guys, this is OLD news...as I said we already have 1 site #1 with the SAME social presence as the other 3, they all have similar non spammy links all from good neighbourhoods. No sitewide links, all on topic. The links BELOW the #1 site are rather old, however my competitors sites that have older domains are on page 7!

Google webmaster tools only inform you MONTHS after an issue is indexed...

Penguin 2.0 rolled out about a week ago or so, we all pretty much know that.

I had some sites rise up, some stay the same and some move down.

With any update they roll it out see what happens then tweak it and this can take weeks and months. Right now for certain terms, there is nothing but garbage on the front page and this happens all the time.

Like the last update alot of "spammy" sites got top rankings for a few weeks then things went back to normal.

They roll out the update then tweak it.

I would wait a little bit to see where your rankings go. I would also check your anchor text in the meantime to see if you are over optimizing anything.

Right now I'm pretty much not using any direct keywords. I'm using "click here", the website url, "check out our site", etc.

The exact keyword anchor text is going to get less and less powerful, becuse the search engines are focusing more on on-page SEO to determine what a site is all about. Links still matter but exact anchor text is mattering (is mattering a word) less and less. If you have a lot of exact match anchor text I would try adding more generic links. But don't go crazy until the update is out for a few weeks.

Then it's waiting game unfortunately. It's going to take a bit for the rankings to settle down and reposition themselves

It's hard to pin down what Google is up to, and that's the way they want it. Just keep doing what you're doing. You'll get back because you've been there before. I think social media may be an avenue you want to go down along with quality articles submitted to article directories.

Well, most of the problems are with backlinks, slight mistake may penalize your site, people even don't know how to do link building exactly...
