Titles and SEO - Should the domain name come first?

Discussion in 'Search Engine Optimization' started by ironmankho, May 16, 2013.

Would you recommend having the title:
    "MyDomain.com - My Page Title"
    OR
    "My Page Title - MyDomain.com"
    OR simply:
    "My Page Title"

How would you compare all three?

    Also any opinions on:
"My_Page_Title" vs "My-Page-Title" vs "My Page Title"?

It depend on domain and your title.
    example:
    A.
    Domain = stepbystep.com
Website/domain Title = Step by Step.
Page Title = How to write good post.

    the best title would be:
"Step by Step - How to write good post" or "Step by Step: How to write good post"

    B
    Domain: EasyandFun.com
    Website/Domain Title: Easy and Fun
Page Title: How to write good post.
The best title would be "How to write good post - Easy and Fun" or "How to write good post with Easy and Fun".

Once again, it depend on the title and domain. Each domain may need different 'attention' in term on SEO and 'clarity'.

IMHO usually the best thing to put first is the target search phrase, as long as you can back it up with good content on page to follow through on your sheer audacity of targeting said phrase.

The domain should never come first- you want your titles targeted as much as possible for each page.

In fact, unless building on your brand name is of huge importance, it's often recommend to drop the domain from all page titles other than your homepage, as this dilutes your keyword targeting.
