Depends which kinda sport you mean. If you were participating in drag racing or rally, then that probably :p

Of the more conventional sports, golf must be up there. Depends what quality clubs you want to buy.

Also, someone said cricket was cheap. Far from it if you play for a club. If you want a decent bat, you're paying upwards of £200, helmet £50, gloves £30, box £5, thigh pad £15, leg pads £40, cricket shoes £30. That's somewhere near £400. However, you'd have to pay twice as much as that just for gold clubs. S'yeah. I'd say golf. Or anything involving a horse.

Cheapest? Anything to do with athletics.

If you consider the price of players, football is the most expensive one. See towards the major clubs. You will find the price of player is millions per week!

Golf, Halo Jump, Yachting, MotoGP race, Nascar, etc.

But i tell you that running is the mother of sport and can be both the cheapest one and the most expensive one.

Be healthy, go sporting, and success for you!

I agree golf and racing need some of the most expensive equipment especially if you are racing, you need very high quality helmets, gloves, jackets and boots along with a super bike. And these all safety equipment's are very expensive.

Golf is not the most expensive sport, I can tell you that much. Any horse-related sport is; showjumping, dressage, barrel racing, polo, ect. There are a not of things you need and they are definitely not cheap.

    A list of basics is:
    • Helmet- $15-50
    • Boots- $60-500 [in some extreme cases, they can cost up to $1,000]
    • Gloves[if a rider uses them]- $10-30
    • Lessons- $20-80 a lesson [hour]
    • Saddle- $300-5,000 [some extreme cases, they can cost up to about $8,000]
    • Saddle pad- $20-150
    • Other saddle accessories[girth, stirrups, stirrup leathers, etc] together- $150-800
    • Show clothes[jacket, pants, etc]- $300-3,000
    • Horse[if you buy one], depending on breed, lineage, training, etc- $500-100,000+
    • Boarding fees[if boarded] each month- $150-1,000
    • Show fees- $20-200 [basic showing, not higher end such as Grand Prix, Olympics, etc]
    • Vet fees- $50-$5,000+ [depending on what the vet is out for, if they need extreme medical attention, etc]
    • Farrier fees- $30-500
These are the basic needs for the sport of equestrianism. These prices are not exact, but usual prices, not including used equipment, etc. So the lower, calmer end of it is around $6,000+, and this sport can go up to 130,000-200,000+, and this is yearly basically, equipment such as tack are usable for years, but boarding fees are typically monthly, not including things such as buying your own feed, paying for middle-of-the-night emergency vet calls, foaling/foals, medical for yourself if you are injured, trailering to and from shows, boarding AT the show itself, buying new riding clothes if yours are ruined, paying for multiple horses, buying more than one set of tack/show clothes, and the vigorous exercise and drive to actually do the sport. It's not easy and it's not cheap.

I see this from a different perspective. Having an 8 year old son the most expensive sport for us was Hockey. The equipment and demands of it were brutal for an 8 year old. The best sport and for cost, activity, sportsmanship etc... has been soccer. It is easy for me to see now why this is the most popular sport in the world. I am loving the game after never being exposed to it as a kid growing up in the USA.

I think it would have to be golf. You have to pay for club membership fees, clubs, and coaching. All of those expenses seem to be charged at a high premium.

Golf and car racing is most expensive sport for play. Car racing is most expensive in its nature because tear wear of cars and expense of fuel is also costly procedure.
