Those 2 things are tools, not tactics. I would say your activity is more important than the tools. Just pick a couple tools that you want to use, then interact with new people everyday on twitter/facebook/forums to drive traffic back to your tools. Your goal is retention.

People trying to download your product must post on Facebook or Google+ wall or tweet about your page in exchange. Very easy to setup and for me the result so far is really astonishing... It goes totally viral...
None of the other any effective than viral marketing. Very little work required with massive results.
1. start locally - put up some flashy fliers. 2. go to every content related forum and participate. 3. work hard
one other best way is posting quality videos on youtube around your niche bring you alot of vistors to your webiste.
