    Hi DP,

I have a question about this forum.
Can I thank someone for liking my post without getting reported, banned, or breaking any rules?

    Thanks,
    -Tony

Send them a private message ("conversation") if you're worried about being reported by someone in public.

Thanks, but I don't think I'll do that.
    It would be weird :(
I don't really need to thank the person anyway.
But are you sure that I would be reported?
And even if I am (I'm new to DP) would it matter when a moderator saw that my post shouldn't have been reported?

    Thanks,
    -Tony

I don't know if you would be reported. There seems to be no point in reporting such a post (in my mere mortal view) and I have a feeling the mods are smart enough not to issue an infraction if such a post is reproted. I don't think there is any point in thanking for a like (at least I don't do it to receive thanks) anyway.

You just seemed a bit worried, hence I mentioned starting a conversation.

Worry less, mate. The mods aren't as bad as some people make out (and it takes 10 points to get banned, too).

Mods aren't stupid they get it, if you want to thank someone just be careful with your wording. You could always just post a message on the members profile message board. Check out my profile, some members have left a few "thank you's" there.
But go ahead and thank them publically if you want. The mods will know what you're doing and you should be o.k. But also as you are thanking them, be sure to make a comment pertaining to the thread topic.;)

So thank them in a post that also has information or a question related to the thread?
I think if I thank someone I'll do it on their profile.

    Thanks,
    -Tony

I'd like to publicly thank those 2 members for giving me a like last night. Unfortunatly I used the words "stupid" "troll" and "s.o.b" in my post, and a mod came along and deleted my post and I lost both likes.

I *do* understand that mods desire to keep the peace much as a cop does. But....if by deleteing a post a member loses 2 likes it's a big deal to the member, and a post that has received 2 likes in 15 minutes is worth something. Mods ought to lay back and think it all out and not react too quickly. Intially the mod had even quoted my post, then changed her mind came back and deleted. (or another mod came along and deleted, not sure)

Okay, so the verdict it that it's safe to thank someone for a like in a PM or on their profile, as long as nothing else in the post/PM is offensive or against rules.
    Sound good?
