As we all know backlinking is very important for generating organic traffic to your site. There are many ways to do this, but not all backlinks will have the same affect on your site. Some backlinks might not even do anything for your site, so its not always about the quantity but the quality of the backlinks. The quality of a backlink can get you very far. So here are some tips that I have learned that can help you guys out a bit. 1) using contextual citation strategy. This is a great way to build backlinks because when you are creating a site with a niche, many visitors might not know much about your niche. Your site might have many new and technical terms that might seem foreign to the visitor. What contextual citation strategy does is, you help define some of these terms by linking them to simpler articles that a beginner would have no trouble understanding. This helps build backlinks between relevant pages on your site. This will also help decrease the bounce rate of your website. 2) Guest blogging: If you got quality articles you can make a guest blog. This would help you tremendously. Instead of spending time finding blogs that have low traffic, find one that has a big following. Being able to link the article back to one of these authority site can make a huge difference. Due to the high traffic of the blog you posted on, you can generate tons of visitors back to your site. 3) Posting on forums. Being active on forums related to your niche will help build you a reputation. Like in business being honest and helpful will help you bring back a lot of customers. So be active and help others. In the long run other forum members would recommend new members to your site. 4) Above the fold linking: Above the fold refers to the area that you see once you visit a site without having to scroll down the page. I have tested this out a few time, and I do see some improvements in traffic. But you would need to test this method out your self. I have tried posting ad on the above fold area before and realize many people just leave my site assuming the rest of the content is concentrated with ads. That is not what you want. If people start seeing quality content they will continue to look through your site, thats why this is a great area for backlinking. Quality content is KEY. No matter how many or how good your backlinking is, if your content is not good people will leave your site. This is like going into a store that a friend recommended, but they sell cheap stuff. You would probably leave immediately after entering the store. Hopes these tips will help you guys. Good Luck!
OK, so lets say you have an article talking about computer parts and you mention a hard drive. If a beginner was reading that article they wouldn't know know what a hard drive is. But if you link that back to an article you had written earlier explaining the different parts of a computer, the reader would have a better understanding of what you are talking about. This not only helps the reader stay on your site, but help them learn more. Google loves these types of back links. I hope that made sense.
Hey gkuang2, I want to know that how many number of these kinds of internal links should be on one page? Is there any limit ? Or if i use internal links for every basic term of a article then is it OK? is it not be a kind of spam in Google's eye? Please explain more...
You definitely don't want to put internal links for every basic term. Always look from a readers perspective, they would probably get annoyed and leave your site. I would say only do it for technical terms where you think a beginner might have trouble understanding. The point of of these back links are to help the reader learn new information, getting more traffic should be secondary. Don't always look at the situation from a money making perspective. You might get a quick increase in views if you place links all over the page, but in the long run it would do more bad then good. Hope this helps.
Always post relevant to the topic as well as don't post any kind of duplicate content.always avoid spamming.off page SEO techniques are the best technique to get more back links to the website.
If you are looking to increase your backlinks then make a balance between incoming and outgoing link and always try to get link form high PR website that help you alot.
Thanks for sharing nice tips... Google uses age of the site, backlinks, social networking as well as PR to rank sites (along with many other factors) so, unless you want to PayPerClick for the life of the site, you need to gather a lot of links and write a lot of content to get ranking as high as possible as it's doubtful that your competitors will be sitting still and doing nothing.
Age of site does matter; Cutts just stresses that it's a smaller variable. But it certainly matters. Think of it this way; new domains (less than 6 months or so) are pretty much impossible (or at best, very challenging) to rank high for on competitive keyphrases, regardless of content quality / links out of the gate. At the same time, most objective research has shown that significantly older domains are going to outperform newer ones if many of the other variables are the same. So domain age certainly isn't everything, but it counts for something and when analyzing websites this rings true.
example - if you have a site that has no backlinks sitting parked for 4 year are you saying google will give priority to ranking to this site than one that has gone live today with content? of course NOT - The most important thing that matters to a site is the backlinks NOT the age of the site:
Great points. Interlinking between articles works great in case of reducing bounce rate. But for this you need to have big list of topics covered to diversify the link keywords.
Directories - These are useful and can create links carrying some value in the sense of attracting traffic to your website. But, in another sense, they are a form of spam; and, as with other spam techniques, links from directories are generally not merit based and as such rarely carry any weight in terms of helping to increase your ranking. There are, however, some notable exceptions such as the DMOZ directory and Yahoo.
One other new and effective strategy is to incorporate social linking that is links from facebook, twitter and G+. They currently provide almost an instant boost just do not over do it.
