Anyone think the .co extension will ever replace the .com?

    I agree with Waffleguy.

There are a few people that I know who panic when they see a link to a "strange" TLD like .net or even .org! If at least 3 people that I know actively stay away from non .com domains, how many others do?

I don't think .co will weaken, or replace or anything to .com, purely for the fact that it doesn't have the same mellifluous content.

It's a grandiose term, but I think it's accurate, much of branding is in how something sounds when you say it, & dot co doesn't sound as definitive or domineering as .com.

I'm not entirely sure that what I'm trying to say will come across in text, but to me I think dot co seems like it is missing something. Dot com, dot net, dot org, all sound definitive, I hear dot co, & I am waiting for more information.

My site phonenews .co ranks pretty well. So yes, .co is doing the job, at least for me.

No I don't. But I do believe .co will become more popular as time goes by. As for the people condemning .co saying that .co creates confusion with .com ... well it's just going to take time to get used to - eventually people will be able to distinguish between the two. People will one day ask. Oh, okay, .co or .com ? And it's also the site owners responsibility to brand and market his site the best he can so there will be no doubt about what site the visitor is on.

Nobody can tell, for it's the Future.

    Self-fulfilling prophecy:
The more there is a demand for dot com domains, the more expensive they become.
The dot com is most widely known, and more or less accepted as the N°1 TLD.
Also, it can be registered without hassles, and no extra requirement is necessary to register a dot com.
Trading in dot com domains is very popular, just because it is widely accepted that dot com domains have just that something that let people believe the TLD is more select than the rest.
So why, oh why, should somebody go for less than a dot com if he/she can pay the asking price?
It is not about what people think a domain is worth, but what somebody really pays to have it.
That price is usually the basis for later resale.
Other TLD's are climbing in price, too, and so is it for some .CC's.
But I believe domains with .com, .net, .org, .info, .biz, and .name TLD are most likely to be traded internationally than domains with .CC TLD's
There is an end for everything, we must accept, but the end of the dot com is not near, I think.

While its technically a ccTLD, its now looked upon by search engines as a gTLD. So really, it is but isn't for columbia :p
And no, It will never surpass .com, .com is just more favorable.
