Is the keyword relevant to your topic?
    Hows the competition? Low? High?
    How many searches?
    Just the obvious
Final thoughts: Find a keyword that is low competition, it will be a lot easier to rank. Make sure your keyword is relevant to your topic. And make sure that your keyword has a nice chunk of searches a month! I might alos suggest that maybe its not just the keyword, make sure you are building links on the right sites (high page ranks) and make aure your content is reader and seo friendly!
I hope you found this helpful! If you have any questions feel free to shoot me a message! :)
    Thanks :)

Don't use expensive keyword tools. Ever! They are a waste of money and don't tell you true "competition".

The FREE Google keyword tool is all you ever need, but don't rely on it. Use your brain to find the BEST keywords too. If you are a guitar player and you have a guitar website, stay from keywords like "how to play guitar" because you will never rank for those keywords without a TON of work.

Instead, use your brain. Maybe you would think of your favorite guitarist and find some good keywords around him.

It doesn't matter if you have a guitar website, a gardening website or a mobile phone website...this technique will work. You just have to think a little bit differently.

Also, in the Google keyword tool, don't pay any attention to the "competition" column. That is for PPC and has nothing to do with SEO one bit. Ignore it and go after those keywords without any competition at all by doing what I said above!
