I run a landscaping business (we're local only) and I am trying to optimize my website code, written content, local business listings (Google Places/Plus Business), and inbound links.

    Here's what I am doing:

    Website Code

    - Using WordPress as the content management system --- installed Yoast SEO plugin
    - Google Analytics
    - Meta title, description, & keyword tags
    - XML sitemap --- submitted it to Google through Google Webmaster tools
    - Good URL links (ex. www.example.com/lawn-maintenance)
    - robots.txt

    Written Content

    - Well-written content (short sentences and paragraphs) that makes use of our keywords
    - Heading tags, bold tags

    Local Business Listings

    - Created business listing pages on Google, Bing, and Yahoo --- completed them 100% with all info, photos, etc.
    - Encouraging customers to leave reviews of our services on our business listings
    - Created Facebook & Twitter business pages --- completed them 100% with all info, photos, etc.

    Inbound Links

    - Did our best to have our suppliers list us on their websites
    - Added our website to local business directories (such as Better Business, local directories)

This is the area we are struggling with because we're competing with large national companies such as Angie's List and other service finder companies.

We found a white hat link building company that offers 25 human submitted links for $79/month and are curious if this would be a good idea?

Any tips or advice? What else can we do? What are we doing wrong?

If you promote your website in your local area then post some of local listing website. Search google list of business listing website and submit it with your business details. It is helpful for getting business inquiry. Submit you website General directory website, article directory, forum posting, blog commenting, Create content and publish it web 2.0 blogs. In this way you generate good no. of traffic and getting quality back link.

    Hello...

Below attached is a large list of Locals to get listed on as well. (Also attached a started PDF so you can see) You need them. Some are much better than others, they feed many other sites. Copy these in a spreadsheet, next to them in another column do your username and pw. Then list your business name, address, owner, year business established, contact email, phone, keywords, one sentence business description and a 3 sentence business description over to the side. That way you can copy and paste the info in. Many of the sites ask for the same info.

Tips: Make sure your address and phone number match on all of them (as far as spelling, how your abbreviate etc), as well as the company name. Make sure your title tag focuses on your locality, like "Dallas / Fort Worth Chiropractor | Bob's Chiropractic" . As you can see here, chiropractor and chiropractic were used. Helped my chiro for free on just this and it changed his rank quickly.

I do not do much for my local customers and their sites always do great.
