well i don't get it! i used to have around 1000 backlinks for one of my sites, PR prediction tool shows a PR5 prediction, now i have around 1300 backlinks and the prediction shows a PR4 ?!!?

so what is it? i know the prediction tool is not that precise but at least it gives an indication!!

    any ideas?

PR prediction tools are not just not-precise they are useless. Back when they could get the RK variable from Google they actually worked but since Google blocked them they don't work at all. Most of the sites just output a random number close to the current PR (if the site already has PR) or a value of 4 or 5. I guess the owners of the sites had to find a way not to lose traffic so they just created fake pr prediction tools.

Don't trust prediction tools, just wait some time and you'll see the result.

Dont worry, PRs shown varies, sometimes it goes up, sometimes it goes down. try checking your average pr in this site livepr.raketforskning.com.

Glad to see everyone on the same page about those prediction tools. I wish they all would just go away.

Also, number of links has nothing to do with PR. One link can give you more PR then 1,000 links. There are a lot of variables involved in it. Read up on pagerank and you will see what I mean.

PR doesn't depend on number of backlinks .. it depends on PR + OBL + Relevancy of inbound inks.

If you have the nerve to make a prediction about the future with enough conviction in your voice, there will always be folks out there believing. Sad, but true.

Up until a couple of weeks ago I myself used these prediction tools (longing for higher PageRank as always).

    No more!

First, this kind of tools are not accurate.
Second:the PR not only depends the amount of the bl's,but also depends the quality of them.

Prediction tools (scams) aside, because the Internet is scalable so by default is PageRank. Ergo as the Internet grows it requires more link trust (# of links, weight of links, etc.) to earn a specific Page Rank.

Don't worry though, if when the Internet shrinks it will require less PR-juice to obtain a higher PageRank.

    Since you asked...

W Boudville (US)-Langville and Meyer have done a superb job describing both Google's technical foundations, and the broader subject of how search engines rank pages. Over half the book is devoted to explaining the maths and rationales behind PageRank. The level of maths is understandable to those who have done some university level courses on linear algebra (i.e. matrices).
