Helllllp - How can I tell which sales are coming from Paid Traffic?

Hello, peon here. I manage marketing for a mid-sized company with several different automotive franchises. Because these stores are franchies, their corporate entities make us use certain website companies for the administration of our sites. We basically have these template sites for showcasing inventory etc. with very little control over form placement etc.

The manufacturer also "strongly recommends" we use a certain company to manage our paid search marketing. This company can tell us what traffic has come to our website via organic & what has come as a result of paid advertising. However, they cannot tell us which leads we get come from paid advertising vs. someone organically coming to our site.

We want to be able to draw a line from ad---->to form submission & name of lead ------> to the sale so we can truly calculate ROI. We don't "sell" cars online so there is no "basket" etc... we simply collect leads on the cars and then respond.

Is this data possible? Should the vendor we are "forced" to use be able to do this? If we managed our own website, would we be able to do this? I have searched and read about landing page URLs but I'm just going around in circles- any help would be huge! Thanks.

    Hi Peon,

You would have to setup Google Analytics by pasting a java script on your/your clients site to enable tracking. Create a static conversion goal which in your case is lead generation by defining a URL Destination Goal (usually the "thank you for subscribing" page). You can even setup funnels by which your visitors has to go through in the conversion process.

If you're using Adwords, you might want to link it with your Google Analytics account and enable auto-tagging. If you're working on a non-Adwords campaign like Bing Ads or other paid media campaigns you have to manually tag your URL to be able to see performance on Google Analytics campaigns and/or compare goal performances based on all traffic sources (including organic) or segments of your traffic sources.

Note: You don't have to do anything beyond pasting the tracking code to track organic traffic as Google is tracking it by default. Do not use the URL Builder tool to track organic traffic as this will mess your data up. It is also a good idea to exclude internal traffic to have more accurate and clean data.
