Hi DPers, I am new to the SEO and online marketing, please advise me from where I can learn the right methods of doing SEO. I understand it takes time and one has to be self taught to learn the trade but I want to know from where I can start learning, the basics and then how to improve the levels.

Thanks for your help and visiting this thread.

Hi, I wish you luck with your SEO challenge your right that most of the little hints and tips are self learnt.

I always come back to here to find new market tips and some basics I may have missed http://www.seobasicsguide.com/

The best thing I always say, is look at the site you are trying to beat then look at your site, you need to figure out what the difference is between the 2, when you find this out you will outrank any site that you need!

In regards to your opening thread, below is a link that simply explains seo and doing it the right way.

    http://www.seomoz.org/beginners-guide-to-seo

As others have posted beforehand, Seomoz is very reputable and then know what they are talking about.
I would strongly recommended reading their blog as well. They always have fresh information and updates to the ever changing world of seo. In other words, staring to learn about seo requires self education and a lot of reading. You can also research this forum as well and find a lot of other reputable sites that will provide excellent guides and help as well.

    - Asking Questions is a Great Method of Learning SEO -

The better the Question you ask, the higher chances are that you will get a better response from more intelligent and experienced professionals/experts.

Just remember: You will only get out of it, what you put into it...

"The better the questions, the better answers."

The more you can learn from other people, and their past experiences with search engine optimization, the more time you can save trying to figure it all out by yourself.

As mentioned above the SEOmoz beginners guide to SEO is a great place to start.

I highly recommend the following too:
    QuickSprout.com
    KaiserTheSage.com
    PointBlankSEO.com

Check out Jon Cooper's complete list of link building strategies from the last one, Point Blank SEO
    - it's an amazing resource!
    http://pointblankseo.com/link-building-strategies

Also if you don't mind paying a little, Distilled U looks excellent but I haven't tried it myself:
    http://www.distilled.net/u/

I have a list of top 10 free SEO tools on my site BlueToolbox.net which is definitely worth checking out too.

    Good luck!
