Currently, when I publish content for my website, I am not concerned with keywords. Instead, I focus on making quality content that the end reader would want to read. I don't want to repeat the same name over and over again so that the search engine remembers what we are talking about. I was wondering if I should consider adding more keywords, or go back and edit my work adding additional keywords or should I leave it as is?
I would probably leave it as is if I were you. Keyword density doesn't have the importance it used to, and over optimization can definitely get you into trouble. If you do go back and add keywords keep the density super low, 1-2% is safest. If it reads well, you could add the keyword to your heading. Otherwise add a sub-heading with the keyword somewhere in the post. Also add the keyword as the alt tag of one or two images. Keep density at around 1% or slightly higher for the rest of the content. This is enough to orient your page toward ranking for the keyword, the rest of your efforts should be focused off-page.
Quality content is always the basic requirement for promotion of websites. If your content is unique and worth reading then it is also very helpful to get visitors to websites. Remember one thing while writing content that keyword density must be 2-3 % in a whole content. If it is more than this then it will be considered as stuffing of keywords in a content.
It honestly depends how you look at it.. I keyword density is normally 1%-3%+ and all of my content ranks on google. I would also suggest having articles that are at least 300-1000 words long.
Thanks for the insights. I think I will take the advice of adding subheadings. If I were to write a 500 word article and did 3% keyword density, then I would be looking at 15 repeats of the same word, so I think I will leave it as is for now.
1-3% is good, aim for 2% though. The key is to have good content for human readers, don't ever try to force a keyword into a sentence so that it looks unnatural. If you're getting traffic from the search engines now then don't worry about changing any of your articles to add keywords. Maybe optimize the pages in other ways, and look into doing some off-page SEO. Look at heading titles, the image alt attributes, etc. It sounds like you are already doing the right thing by providing your visitors with quality content. Keep doing it the same way, write for the people not the search engines. Google don't want you stuffing keywords into your articles, and neither do your readers
Anything you can do to improve your site via on-page optimization according to what Google says, try to maintain keyword density too, if you keep your keyword around 2% then it is good I would say.
There seems to be a growing consensus among the top SEO professionals that keyword density is a thing of the past. What IS becoming important is using lots of related words, not just one specific keyword over and over again. For example, if "fishing guides" is your targeted keyword, be sure your copy has tons of related words — such as , fishing tackle, rainbow trout, drift boat, licenses, angling, river, bait, limit, professional, experienced, and the like. If you use a bunch of these related words, as well as a handful (not too many) uses of your main phrase "fishing guide/s", you'll do well.
If you have a website and want to rank the homepage then write for your visitors forget inserting keywords, etc. If you have a blog and want to rank a blog post for a specific keyword put that in title and repeat the title at beginning and end of post. Don't think just because you insert more often the keyword you want to rank for in your websites your rankings will increase - forget about that onpage stuff! Focus on using the keyword in anchor text of backlinks, aka get backlinks!
Hey suidmach, You should have to just keep in mind about your visitors or users, not about search engine. As search engine loves only those sites loved by Users. So, keep your work under quality. And also if you don't want to repeat same keyword again and again and want to use some other keywords in place of using only one, then it will be more helpful to your site, as Google prefer keyword variation.
