Hi DP Loyalists, I just found out that Digital Point has dropped in the traffic rankings on both Quantcast and Alexa. This seems to be happening despite all the many changes that have been put into place by disciplined and able moderators. I had mentioned that some of the changes like the "LIKES" system might affect visitor loyalty in the long run but I didn't quite expect these changes to show a downward spiral so soon. Here is the most recent Alexa infographic... What do the "expert" users with hundreds and thousands of "LIKES" think about this. Also what do the new members think about this drop as well. Am I missing something or is this a sign that Digital Point needs to take some serious note, and possibly make some drastic changes.
Digital point not losing traffic of the website, digital point only losing spammers. Now, spammers move to other forums. Good luck to spammers.
How exactly is DP losing spammers by changing to this template and software?? Pray do tell me since losing 25 percent of users is quite a drop in the last month don't you think.
Please keep in mind that DP *wanted* to lose some of this traffic, in truth that was in part the whole point of this exercise. Many members were getting their 25 posts by posting gems such as "Ya I agree" or "I like this" then were never heard from again. They were in so to speak, and were spamming like madmen/women. So yes there may be a drop in worthless members but I have noticed a spike in members posting quality posts, and the place has picked up as far as being a community. I've gone back to a posting on a few forums that I had basically ignored, I'm back due to the new interaction vis a vis newly contributing members. My loyalty at least has increased, and I'm posting 4 times more than I was previously and doing more business as a result.
DP admin said, we need only quality visitors and posters, we not need quantity of visitors and posters. DP team not feel any type of fear with this stat, So, why we are feel?
Once again, am I missing something here. I am definitely not a layman with no knowledge on getting massive traffic to forums, websites or blogs. I don't understand how Quantcast and Alexa can be wrong about such a massive drop. And that too after somebody sent out over 1 million emails asking us to come see the new changes. If anything, there should have been an increase in traffic at least for the last 45 to 60 days.
Really this is funny... It's funny that some people just don't get it. "Oh, see, I told ya DP was gonna go downhill because *I* couldn't post in the BST" - not understanding that fighting spam will make traffic go down and that it was anticipated... idiots...
I really don't get it. Perhaps seasoned members can be so kind as to elaborate on things with a much better post quality than they are currently doing.
Thread creator, read this thread. https://forums.digitalpoint.com/threads/one-month-after-switching-from-vbulletin-to-xenforo.2637721/
Read the thread and noted the main points. Very helpful resource. Still doesn't explain the visitor drop on Alexa and Quantcast. And, when I say "explain" I mean explain in direct connection to the graphic I posted here.
Alexa is not even close to accurate and is a waste of time to look at the stat. Alexa only records traffic from users using the toolbar. Mostly only people from 3rd world countries use it so it don't record the majority of the traffic which comes from US and UK
This is the whole point which OP need to understand; again alexa only counts visit from users who have "Alexa toolbar" installed in their browser.
OK. So what you guys are saying is that Alexa and Quantcast are completely wrong about the infographic presented here. So, in this case, everything is fine on DP and there is nothing to worry about. Hmmm...thanks for the expert opinions guys. I am really relieved now. Long live DP.
Alexa numbers are going down because we implemented the mitigation of low quality users at the same time. See this thread: https://forums.digitalpoint.com/threads/mitigation-of-low-quality-users.2628741/ It just so happens that low quality users tend to have a MUCH higher probability of the Alexa toolbar being installed. See this: https://forums.digitalpoint.com/threads/i-cant-post-in-buy-sell-trade.2606754/page-3#post-18419318 So yes... low quality users are going down, and high quality users are going up.
I get quite a bit of traffic from DP, so I am not going to and will never bash whoever is behind this awesome forum. But the facts do not lie. There's just as much spam on it today as it was at any time in the past. I am surprised that some can't seem to see that. If fighting spam was that easy then craigslist would be the perfect example of eliminating all spam. But...... there's more spam on craigslist today than on ANY other classifieds, simply because of the sheer number of visitors AND the adjustability of its users to the ToU requirements. My hat is off to you for voicing this issue. The solution? Look at FB, Twitter and G+. It's all about friends, followers and circles. You can let someone in, you can block the rest out. If you want to keep your profile open - you can do that. If you want to have just 5 friends - you can do that to! To me, that's the ONLY way in fighting spam and making something more effective when it comes to social media. The rest of social media sites/forums will be overwhelmed with spam and loss of credibility and as a result, loyalty. And, on a personal note, DP, please, stop changing your layout. Keep this one for the next 5 years (at least).
I disagree. There is always going to be some, but there is way less now. This place is way more moderated than craigslist. Aside from the moderators, the users help a lot by reporting post/threads. Your hat is off to him for posting an inaccurate analysis...?
