Searches per month on Google

Discussion in 'Google' started by compar, Jul 22, 2004.

I'm negotiating with a prospective new SEO client. He just sent me a spreadsheet from another SEO company he has used and they list a bunch of keywords and then have a column that is labelled "Google searches per Month".

To the best of my knowledge Google doesn't publish search numbers like that. You can get a bit of an idea on the Google search numbers from the forecast AdWords will give you for any keyword, but I don't think that is what these numbers are.

Does anybody know of any source that claims to be Google's search number by keywords?

Yep, explored this too, this isn't any published data beyond what you can get from adwords. I am betting that the company probably developed a simple formula for the google searches, where they take wordtracker or overture data and multiply it by what percentage to get a higher number.
Or they could just use Overture data and call it Google. Sneaky sneaky.

Published directly as "Google" searches? not as an estimate or anything?

I wonder if the other SEO knows someone in Google? They are pretty tight lipped with specific searches. I think it is BS. You should ask the new client to call them on it, maybe they will divulge the source to the client (if there is a source) and then you could find out that info.

I do however remember that there was a tool that claimed to do such a thing. I will try to find out where I read it.

The poster that mentioned the ADWORDS interface is right, that is the only place that I have seen figures, at least when I used to buy ADWORDS, before my little problem with Google.

No not when they tried to install the Verichip in me, but when they started stuffing my keywords with redirection listings to their Adsense partners.

That is when all of this started about 11/2003 when I started to research the matter and then started publishing what I found, I guess the rest is history, or the future.

There is SOME information available at the Google Zeitgeist but I also have NEVER heard of Google publishing this data - the Adwords angle has allready been mentioned, but that's the best I've heard - sound like they are making things up to me! ;-)

Or perhaps they are using a stats package like Urchin or SmarterStats with their websites? These have the ability to give you total number of keywords searched over a period of time.

They may simply have similar clients to your customer and so already had this data.

Have you seen 1stposition.net it has a keyword popularity tool, that gives the number of Google searches per month. I have no idea where this software gets its data from, or how accurate it is?
