If Google is NOT live, then I am sure almost 95% of the webmasters (including me) will lose their earnings and will stop working, because there is no reason to build backlinks if they are not show any results (well... we can of course continue with Yahoo or Bing -> but they are not so good for potentional clients, Google rocks!!!)
If there is no Google (but it always will be),probably will be something that is same or even better than Google. Something like Bing.
In a world without Google... well, like everyone has said, there would still be other search engines... But what about in a world without online search engines? How would you market then? Well, the answer is actually a history lesson. Take a look at how people did marketing before the internet, and those are the strategies you would need to follow. The ultimate secret is to write quality content or offer a valuable product in order to ensure repeat business. In a world without search engines, it's a lot harder to attract new people to your "offering" whether than be a local business or an online website. You need to impress and keep the people you manage to get in your "door" otherwise you will fail. You can't count on a steady stream of new traffic, you need to really focus on building relationships with your existing customers so they come back. Funny enough, in a world with Google, we take traffic for granted. We get tons of visitors to our websites with minimal effort. We don't appreciate the value of each unique visitor enough. It's a good idea to consider these old strategies and work these things into the modern day. The good news is that it should be easier to do since Google does exist, all you have to do is make an effort to grow your website by building lasting relationships. Then, you can conquer the world.
If there is no Google and no search engines as substitution, then you all hire 20 promoters and go on the street and yell your website's URL =(
Target other websites pretty obvious isn't it? Facebook, forums, find out where your prospects are, if Google did not exist buy ppc ads on yahoo or msn or fb ads, people still will use the Internet I'm sure of that even without Google so they'll be somewhere just find out where hehe.
Hopefully you are capture leads with an opt-in list. You should be creating your own following and community today to make sure you are ready for the next tsunami of change. Your followers will still follow you....
That's true my friend. Nobody came to stay here forever. The biggest and strongest Empires in the world collapsed long time ago. At some point, everything get replaced by something else.
There is a will there is a way. If Google was not published their service someone would do that for all. Because It is not only a service but also a competition like now facebook and Google plus , Google and yahoo., USA and Russia haha funny.
It's true that most of the visitors to our website(s) come from search engines especially Google, but you'd also see people finding your website/webpages through other sources. And IF Google closes down and so does the other search engines, your traffic would drop but I wouldn't agree that no one would visit our site. People did have businesses before search engines dominated the internet, it's just that after it's evolution businesses flourished to a degree that today we cannot or rather don't want to imagine a world with the search engines.
In that case, there would be no google but something similar to it. A search engine with the same capabilities - just not named Google.
You are forgetting that before Google their were popular sites! The only difference is that people went only to the popular domain they remembered, therefore small sites were out of the equation and could not succeed. Thanks to Google Internet has become a democratic space that allows everyone to express, i wouldn't have found this forum without Google...
Sort of like the question about a tree falling in the woods does it make a sound? Sure it does but nobody cares since they didn't hear it. Google is like that for some people. If you are on it constantly (and I am as its my homepage, checking keywords, google voice, Gmail, shared calendars, etc..) then you immediately feel the impact with it being gone. But if your business and life does not revolve around one tool (be it Google, Facebook or heck Yellow Pages) then you are you are not stuck when that tool fails you. I would go back to what I was doing before Google - retail marketing one client at a time instead of mass marketing. Its harder but its doable. I would also change my product mix to one with higher margins to make up for losing the traffic I now receive from the search engines.
There was life and the internet before Google and if ever Google falls from grace, there will be life, business and marketing without it.
Yes, there will always be alternatives. It is a risky game to play to feel that the world cannot manage without you.
