Local SEO - As per my understanding in simple terms if a business is serving in a particular area or location in that case best is to go for Local SEO and optimize website for Local keywords.

SEO - But if user base is national or global in that case one must target best converting keywords. Here proper SEO helps a lot but competition is quite high also.
    1. What's your opinion on above?
    2. Whether Local SEO is all about validating listings over Google Places?
    3. Types of campaigns one can add in Local SEO?
Answer above questions as it may be helpful for all of us.

Every business needs to do SEO. If you sell products or services to local consumers then you need to be sure to include the local SEO components. Search Engine Journal had a helpful article about Local SEO here: http://www.searchenginejournal.com/the-definitive-guide-to-local-seo/47319/

    1) Yes you are absolutely right, but its normal seo isn't that hard if you find the right keywords. Local SEO, is much easier, but you still need to know what your doing.

    2) Local SEO isn't all about Google Places. You can still rank for local keywords without the Google Places.

    3) Ranking for local SEO is the same as ranking for normal SEO. The only difference is that your keywords will have a city name combination, such as "San Diego Chinese Restaurant". Makes sense right?

    Best Regards,

    Marc

Yes, make sense rest depends a lot on competition. As many times EMD ranks quite higher in search engines. :)

Couldn't agree more..Getting an EMD make things easier..I have several case studies, where I was able to rank using EMD within a week for low competition keywords.

If the keywords are low hanging fruit, the EMD needs to be .com, .net or .org. For competitive keywords EMDs aren't working anymore on G even if you have the aforementioned TLDs.

I agreed with you not only low competition keywords, many times EMD performs well in case of high competition keywords also as it all depends on how you are managing your domain.

"We have looked at the rankings and weights that we give to keyword domains and some people have complained that we’re giving a little too much weight for keywords in domains. And so we have been thinking about adjusting that mix a little bit and sort of turning the knob down within the algorithm so that given two different domains, it wouldn’t necessarily help you as much to have a domain with a bunch of keywords in it." - Matt Cutts

If you are adding high quality unique articles, I am sure any site can perform well in search engines. It's all about how attractive your website is.

As far as EMD concerns about, I hope so everyone wants exact match domain (provided it's free and .com one). :)

Based on my experience, EMD isn't as effective as it used to be. There's a cap in the value of EMD now.

If you build an authority site, you'll eventually outrank an EMD because of unlimited value stacking within the inner pages. I've outranked pretty much all the EMD's i've gone against, and it's much cheaper too lol.

Agreed with your point that all EMD isn't as effective as it used to be and one must build an authority site. But still I prefer EMD domain provided it's available and a .com one.

Yea, that's good too... It just depends on your style...

Man, gone are the days where you can find an EMD for the keyword "how to lose weight fast" LOL.. I wonder who actually owns that domain lol..

For local seo, using local sources for promotion would also help, these places are:

    classifieds sites in the area
    local forums
some authority sites based in the location
building links using the extension related to location like .us, .es, .in, .co.uk etc.

Classified sites and local forums helps a lot in getting local traffic.
Links from authority sites definitely works well.
Building links over different extensions may work but one must take care of unique contents.

    Yes....I agree...experience counts a lot in SEO

Common SEO tactics like linkbuilding from authority/relevant sites and unique content are already overused...

Professional SEO specialists have some "secret weapons" that they would never share to others.......and they obtain these only through hard work and experience :)

Local SEO is only advantageous for those business owner who only wants to offer their business services within a particular geographical boundary. Because they believe in making profit from capitalizing on local market rather than from global.Because Global SEO no doubt will give them a global visibility but very few of global traffic will change into their valuable customers, so Local SEO is beneficial for them as compared to global SEO
