WordPress is not bad actually. Just need to configure and tweak a bit at first but once everything is ready, then it works like a charm

There are many E-commerce CMS is available,
But If you are looking for a Pure E-commerce CMS,
Than Magento and Presta Shop is the very popular now a days,
My own recommendation is Magento because it has a lot's of Front end and Back End, Functionality which will be very good for the End User as well as customer.

If you are looking for some other options than Woocommerce and Virtumart is also a good options,
Both are the Extension for wordpress and Joomla respectively.
In that you can use E-commerce functionality with Core Wordpress and Joomla functionality,

But once again, It's not better as compare to Magento, Because Magento has a best coding standard,
It has good options for Shipping and Payment , Which is a very important part of E-commerce.

For further information you can refer a Magento Site or you can contact a professional E-commerce Development company...

I will suggest you to use Prestashop as it is open source and also good if you have lake knowledge about technologies. If you want an eCommerce solution for small or medium business, then Prestashop can be the best option. Prestashop uses the AJAX in the admin panel and modules can also be added easily to provide extra functionality.
