    i think that person is not real webmaster,and directory is not dead me and my all friends use directory for improve my websites.

    Directories are dead in so much as there is a prevalence of bad directories, but that doesn't mean the good directories don't exist. It just means you need to look harder or at least know where to look. I'm not sure if it was in response to this thread or not, but DirJournal had a nice piece on this topic

    Brings out some good points the one I like most is focusing on visitors. When visitors are happy they come back. Unfortunately, we have to recognize google is a direct competitor and that makes it hard sometimes.

    Most of the directories are not dead, it is the spam directories or the directories which were created to do bulk submission are penalized by google and only they are dead. Google penalized the spammers which is good for the seo industry.

    I read the article, it is nicely written. Yes we need to accept the importance of editorial standard and only then we can think of getting a benefit from having a Directory.

    Nooooooo! Directories still rocks. Only some of them are dead which were not contributing and were mainly used for just creating garbage links. There are still some good directories out three which provide very good value to the site in search ranking.

    Its funny you mention DMOZ. I have ( 4 ) sons and I try teaching them the web , and sometimes I mention DMOZ and feel so old talking about it, Its like saying " I remember when Hamburgers where 5 cents"

    So yeah, I agree, After DMOZ became ....well. corrupt.........that was it,

    I can understand the concept of the "dreamers" with the directories, ....

    Its kinda like how people run out to buy bread when they see a storm coming, YET. they never eat bread when there is no storm......

    The directory owners want to "sell the dream" to the N00bs......I get it ;)

    PSS: I have been a professional webmaster since 2001 and to be honest, I would not even know what to search for to find a directory....

    PSSS: I also have noticed that so many websites since 2005 have "vanished" .......

    How do directory owners deal with that?

    The only good directory is the Digital Point Directory since it's PageRank 5 (of course this is a joke, I haven't even looked to see what's in the DP Directory in a couple years... I'm sure it's probably spam).
