Because Google has not only a search engine, it has almost all the things we need today, it is really hard to say that it would diss-apear

Google will vanish but not in five years definitely. I'm pretty sure that if something new and better comes up, it will need time to claim on Google's spot.

I still remember Hotbot search engine from 1990's. Do YOU remember that? I haven't heard much out of Hotbot since the early 2000's.They are pretty much dead now, I think. So Google cannot be forever, either.

Well, all about quality, if Google maintains quality of search result then it would survive otherwise lots of competitors are looking at opportunity to defeat it.

About a week ago I was sent the download URL of a SEO tool that actually tells you whether the Google SERPS page is crap

i.e. you will be wasting your time to get a ranking - not because of the competition, but because Google is blocking good content, and only promoting their own inventory - i.e. YouTube

    I kid you not!

When SEO's bring out software like that, Google is finished!

The only way Google can go down is when Bing can prove it's relevance. Not sure how search will change 5 years from now but it will.

I would like to think of them disappearing quite frankly. For the most part because their rules are abitrary. I think of Netscape and all those other guys that were riding high before Google came onto the scene, and I hope. I just wish that when they banned someone they'd give that person a fair hearing. They don't. Whenever they're having a hard time from some national government I'm always thinking; "Yeah, what's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander."

Google is expanding more and more these days, but I also agree that someday someone will overcome google's power, but not within 5 years.

It is hardly likely that Google will disappear
    in the next 5 years
or even in the next decade.
There are very smart brains at work there
and if you say that Google is going to disappear
it is like saying that Microsoft or Dell are going to disappear
    - none of which are going to happen
We need to accept the fact that Google
is the undisputed search engine onliojen
    - why fight them????

Google just can't disappear that is completely impossible. Only thing that can happen is that something more quality comes up but if that happen it will take more than five years. So Google will dominate for a while.
