Hi, I created my website approximately 12hours ago. Upon typing "myurl.com" into Google, a random page from my website is returned and not the homepage. After some digging I can find the homepage. Any ideas why this would be occurring? I have reviewed my meta robots tags and robots.txt but to no avail. Help? Thanks
There are a few things to consider: Search engines are pretty quick, but it still may take some time for them tom completely index your site, 12 hours isn't very much time to ensure that process is complete. Search engines rank results based on the content of the page. Just because your home page is the first page of your site, doesn't mean that it will get shown first in search results. One of the components of how search results are ranked is external linking. As people link to your website from their blog/website - the url they link to will get a boost in search engine ranking. Most people will link to your homepage - so eventually your homepage will end up with a higher ranking. Again, it's all about content - take a look at what is on your homepage and if the search engines can index it. If your home page is all graphics and very little text, there isn't much there to index against and it's going to get a worse ranking in search engines. I hope this is helpful! -Andy
You have to wait a lot longer than 12 hours to expect any results. DNS to a site that new generally won't even be propagated let alone have search engines crawling it.
I think the problem is indexing...It has been 12 hours only and I think google needs more than that to get the new details of your website. Few days ago I changed the h1 tag of my website to a much SEO friendly keyword and trust me google took 36-48 hours in refreshing the new terms. Wait for 24 more hours and it should be fine.
You need more time to index man.. Just build some backlinks, and you'll see the page index within a week or so. To Your Success, Marc
