Hi Guys, Just want to know if EMD (Exact match domain) will rank after recent changes in the Google algorithm ? Please share your experience. Thank You
Yes, but you don't get as big a bonus as you used to. i.e. you won't get first page just because of the match. They're basically slapping down the people who bought an EMD and spewed crap on it but still ranked. As with all the recent Google changes, if your site's decent you'll rank.
Emd Stupid, if my business 100 percent related to Name, why get killed, and other idiot has weird name in same business, get better rank than me. google gets worsts and worst.
Names are becoming irrelevant. Why does a company called Nike rank for selling shoes? Or Levis for jeans? Or Kleenex for tissues? Because their sites do that. Their content does that. Their branding and marketing do that. They publish masses of quality content, get piles of backlinks and are recognised as authorities (in the general meaning of the term). A name doesn't mean diddly, especially when you compare it to content.
i understand your point Tiero, i think, that EMD update was not smart, thats all, other updates, are more right even i lost some traffic with them as well, but its more for clean up, but EMD, its just LOW !!!
EMD will rank as long as the site gets good content on it. The Google EMD update only punish the sites that rank ONLY by EMD, but with rubbish content.
EMD is only effective you know how to do it right. If your doing EMD, make sure your keyword density is no more than 1% of your content so that you can avoid penalty. But you still can get a bit of bonus in order to get great rankings.
I can see your point, too - as someone targetting a particular niche, you want to own the domain name. That makes sense and you shouldn't be penalised for it (and theoretically won't be). But the old EMD ranking bonus was blind and too easy to manipulate if you were being... less than honest... about the content of the site. It's sort of like only ranking by PR: doesn't make sense. Consider this: if I type "lawyer for my pet hamster" into Google, I want information about hiring a lawyer for my pet hamster; if Google returns a site full of crap that ranks on Page 1 just because they happen to own lawyerformypethamster.com, well... that's not a relevant result. Or consider this: how many times have you typed an EMD into the address bar on your browser and got an interstitial page full of ads, junk and crappy (paid) links to other sites? That's not a relevant result, IMHO, so the people doing it deserve to get slapped and earn less for no work and no helpful content. Appearing on Page 1 makes sense as long as the content is appropriate, which is what the EMD update is designed to (help) do: check that your content is appropriate for the search term. If it is, fine. If it isn't, Google-slap. Of course, that's the theory. The practice may be VERY different!
In the recent google update EMDs have lost their importance, they are just like any other domain..now it is the content that matters to make a website related to the keyword you need rankings for..not the domain name... hope that helps. rakesh
Google recently cracked down on low quality EMDs,for sure.but Google not yet banned EMDs completely.Just build the right backlinks and social signals and you'll see your website within top positions.
EMD still works, only those sites were affected which were of low quality, quality EMD sites are still working!
As a new member I can not add in URL so I have one site If you want to visit that I just prepare after EMD to test this thing and my findings is still that EMD counts but not like before.one of my previous site with out SEO goes to top 10 for natural domain name but now its between 30-40 for the keyword with out any SEO.
Google is Cracking 'Low Quality' exact match domain. It doesn't make sense for Google to crack exact match domain because most of the time, the exact match domain has the most relevant content or information for that search query typed into Google and Google value relevance right? It's like entering the search Query "Google" into Google search and then Google returns "Bing" as #1 result. That would just be plain stupid . Again What Google is cracking down on are "Low Quality Exact Match Domains" so get that myth of Google is cracking down exact match domain from your head because it doesn't exist. Must Read:: Did you know that registering a '.US' exact match domain can shoot your site to the front page of Google for your keyword within a short time ? Most people don't know this, but this TLD rank extremely well for US targeted traffic.

I think the EMD normally (by itself alone) shouldn't be a problem... I tend to pick non-MD domains now. Seems to work. Focus on building a brand. Otherwise EMD shouldn't be a problem, if your content is very good and SEO and all... Here's an EMD-related video:
