{shrug} if you want, fine by me. Kind of like the homeless guy who talks to himself... I'm certainly not going to try and stop him. :)

Hehe... If there was a reporting API we could use to find out if you got one, at least 1,000.

I am wondering if that instead of a "like" button, we could have a "suck" button for people like malky66 ? Then when he wants to suck up to Shawn and Digital Point in his quest to become a moderator, all he has to do is click on the "suck" button rather than chase people over the internet reporting on their behaviour.

Perhaps if you do a certain amount of "sucks", you auto upgrade to moderator status so that the rest of the members no longer have to witness the kiss arsing ? :D

    Well worth considering :)

We have stuff in place to detect when an account changes hands already (either sold or stolen/phished). :)

As far as sucking up to me to be a moderator... that's probably the worst possible way to get to be a moderator (just FYI). :)

Also, you guys should check out the Ignore function. It's quite handy and could even help you from getting yourself banned. :) https://forums.digitalpoint.com/account/ignored

Nice way to get two likes :). I saw some of new members writing just the same, a good tactic to get Like. Guess what, I have 4 likes and am agains't it. No need to quote me, I know there is no need to complain anymore as nothing will change. Just saying, good way to get two likes ;).

The most stupid accuse ever red.
How can you accuse someone for abusing because he/she likes too much, or like what you don't like? Liking something (a post) is relative and you can not force anyone to like what you like or what you want to be liked (as seems to be a rule here).

    Not seen this elsewhere but...
I have likes from the old forum. Can i assume these are ignored?
I actually think the idea behind 'likes' and membership is useful. It may help keep some of the drive by spammers out of the buy/sell forum. If I have to earn my right to post again then so be it. Tad annoying for an existing member but not worth the tears some people are shedding over it.

No, your likes stand. You just need to wait an hour for your permissions to kick in fully, if you're experiencing any problems. (You'll then notice you have a bunch of trophy points, too.)

What appears to be happening is that members seem to be judging each others like giving. I *hope* that we don't get into this. I respect both @browntwn's and @diatua's take on this, though both appear to be on opposite sides of the equation. I suggest that we simply heed our *own* like dispensation and not attempt to alter or affect anyone else's giving out of likes.

I got a like before and so I checked to see what I said that was "liked". I ended up seeing that the person had liked every single post in a particular thread, like 40 posts in a row. That type of thing just seemed to abuse the idea that the like was to reward a quality post and became just a way to think people for participating in a particular thread. If that became the standard then the like system, as one to keep spammers out, would not work. I thought, as I said, that there can what appears to be abuse of the system.

I've also seen the same person giving a user all 3 of the likes they needed to get "established". I think, in certain circumstances, that can also be a sign of abuse of the system.

These are just common sense observations, not an micro analysis of what someone liked to see if it is something I like. I agree that what you choose to like is subjective and not really subject to challenge on an individual level. That does not mean it cannot be abused.

I have no interest in checking the merits of a particular like or not. That is purely subjective. But to deny that they can be abused is just being naive.

Its a bit strange to be a senior member (since 2006) and still be required to get "likes".. Oh well...
