Google returns more relevant results in many cases, so I think yes, it's better. but still a lot of work ahead

Actually, even for an SEO the Panda update isn't a bad thing. I have been doing SEO for a lot of my clients and our rankings have gotten better since the Panda.

Interesting that there is a mixed view on this.
    My view is clear.

Results for the normal user (non webmaster) is no better today than 2 years ago.
In fact, I would say in many niches it is much worse.

Trust and freshness, social media and unique data are key for success, but those organisations that have the resouce to add lots of fresh content, can get the best trusted links say from goverment agencies an have their own data, rather than re-using will rank high.

The smaller website owner that does not have these resources will fail.

Google is doing what DMOX has been doing for some time now, only allowing trust worthy sites in its index, so why do we need Google anymore?
I forcast that Google will lose ground in the next 5 years, when it is extablished that only a small amount of large organistation like ebay, amazon, wiki, you tube will rank everywgere for everything.
Time for the rest to step to the plate and take them on.

Even after the Panda update, many of the top ten results are of low quality. Google still has to improve a lot...

    Yes
    Hopefully more than one.
Facebook have recently annouced they are working with Bing for their search engine.
In the States Google has 55% of search in the UK 90%, so it may happen outside of the USA first.

I find the results to better on the whole. It is nice how real efforts are rewarded more than the sammy techniques used once. It is better quality at a lower cost to google and searchers. Before it was a question of money and who was the most crafty, now it is a case of who provides the best and who is wanted by people looking in that area.

I'd like to think so. Google isn't perfect, but they do their best i guess. Although I do feel the company is getting too greedy, their search results still isn't too bad.

I think Google SERP is better before google update because right now there is no any good quality of sites which is showing on SERP, they showing olx, facebook, twitter, linkedin type of result which is not informative.

Interesting take. I'm not sure if there will be any successful search engine after Google, at least in the next 5 years. Facebook's graph search is coming up soon, but it doesn't search the whole web, only searches FB content from peoples' profiles, posts, etc.
We just have to face the fact that Google is has a monopoly over web search and do our best to get into the good books of Google.

Well panda upadate make SEO difficult for people used traditional techniques. Results are now base on purely on the nature of SEO. Relevancy is neceassary for links and for other techniques. So it is difficult to say it is better.

Used to have 4,000 unique vistiors a day, then 2,500 a day, and these past few days, 1,000-ish a day. Great, Google, thank you so much. And I wasn't hiring any SEO stuffs + write my own content once a day
