Do Sitemap Effect Backlinks?

    Today, I checked Google webmaster tool, I got a message that"Your Sitemap contains too many URLs. Please create multiple Sitemaps with up to 50000 URLs each and submit all Sitemaps." and I saw that my back-link decreased from 1944 to 421. Please tell me does sitemap effect my back-links? or why my back-links go down so much?

    In short in my opinion: The two things are not related at all. (Do also notice that GWT will only show you a subset of your backlinks.)

    Thanks for all helps. I see that google remove low quality back links and save my high quality back links. And my page rank is increased after google update pagerank on 2/4/2013.

    There is no relationship. Sitemaps just tell the search engines what URLs exist on your site to help with indexing.

    I don't think that sitemap really help to increase the backlinks, its good for indexing all page of a website at a time in SERP.

    what i know about sitemap is, it's a bridging section where in SERP's bot will easily access deeper pages. and i am doubtful that sitemap can affect your backlinks. Backlinks are links pointing towards to your site and and site i an hierarchy of links of your website. so that's why they have no connection at all.

    just my opinion.

    Ya it effect on backlinks when Google crawl than it will delete un-relevant links only relevant links will be there.
