I don't really understand what you are trying to say , but I think you haven't used Dreamweaver too much and you haven't seen it's truly features.

I'm working on Ubuntu (Linux) and the basic text editor there is really good enough to code html, css and many other languages, you can also install some addons if you wanna have more features.

Dreamweaver can produce good websites. I'll give you that much.

However, Dreamweaver CANNOT produce properly coded websites. Dreamweaver manages to screw up even the basics of code by adding extra <p> tags where they aren't needed, adding useless features that slow down page speed (Such as the inbuilt Javascipt and tools like that). HTML is used to describe what a page should be interpreted as. P is for paragraphs - Not space filling.<b> and <strong> have different purposes.

tl;dr Dreamweaver is for first time, new web designers, not professionals.

Dreamweaver is professional!! What a joke! In my opinion, typing code line by line using even a very basic text editor is professional!

I suppose Notepad++ has more features, but I prefer the simplicity of Notepad2 (has just the right amount of features to keep me happy)

When I was first studying HTML... i was using Notepad only lol
Then I tried Adobe DreamWeaver and i used that for a couple of years...
After DreamWeaver, now I'm using Sublime Text.

Based in my experience... Sublime Text gives me fast and efficient way in coding.

But of course, all-in-all the answer will depends in the user. Co'z your the one who will feel
what software is comfortable to use... :D Maybe you try different software and find out what's for you ;)

    I hope this help.

    Thanks and God bless always!

... and as usual the ignorant dullards who actually think DW offers anything useful for web development come out of the woodwork -- given that there is NOTHING you can learn from it on building a page, as JamJar919 said you pretty much have to stay away from ANYTHING it tries to do to automate page building and restrict yourself to code view... at which point congratulations you've blown several hundred dollars on the functionality of any free notepad replacement and any free ftp client... Oh yeah, that's SO made of WIN -- NOT!

Again, as I've been saying for over a decade now, the only thing about Dreamweaver that can be considered professional grade tools are the people promoting it's use...

Which of course is Adobe for the web in a nutshell, from the PSD jockeys spanking it all over the screen in Photoshop and then having the cojones to call themselves "web designers" when they don't know enough about HTML, CSS or accessibility to be designing JACK -- to the idiots thinking DW's "preview pane" is worth using, to the decade out of date scripted asshattery DW tries to put on pages to do CSS' job, to Adobe on the whole not knowing an optimized image file from the hole in their product DVD's... It is at best a bunch of overpriced sleazy shortcuts -- at worst little more than preying on the ignorance of others.

Which is why to be brutally frank, anyone who thinks DW has anything to offer a web developer is, well... about as sharp as a bowling ball.

    ----------------------

Ok, on topic right now I'm liking Flo's Notepad 2
    http://www.flos-freeware.ch/notepad2.html

It's based on Scintilla, but despite that isn't a steaming pile of Scite. I say, I say... that's a joke son.... I like it because it lets me turn off all the goofy crap that gets in the way of writing code or having a smooth workflow, while still providing the tools that make things easier.

    Things I turn off?

Color Syntax highlighting for a start... How the hell these illegible acid trips of color 'help' anyone write code is beyond me -- but then I look at most other people's code and realize that they miss the simple step of actually writing clear code in the first place.

Tabbed editiong -- a technological step BACKWARDS for me as a developer, since shoe-horning everything into one window when my primary display is 27" 2560x1440 saddled between two 24" 1920x1200 displays doesn't make a whole lot of sense... multiple separate editor windows on the other hand makes a LOT of sense since then I can do things like *SHOCK* look at my HTML, CSS and SCRIPTING side-by-side... all at once. Tabs are cute for small displays, useless idiocy at anything more than 1600 pixels wide.

Autocomplete -- I spend more time correcting code than I do typing it with this garbage on; by the time I figure out the context or look at the display to figure out what it's trying to complete, I could have already typed the blasted thing in.

On the other hand, there are a bunch of things I really like to have -- line-wrap indicators, 76 column guide rule, indent guides, visual brace matching, etc, etc...

I've tried sublime -- it's just not for me... The skins are hideous, the UI api is inaccessible rubbish (to the point I'd half suspect it of being a SWING application -- it's that bad), I still can't get it to hide that stupid side-bar preview crap that sucks down screen space for nothing, and while you can make it open multiple windows you can't get it to do that as the default behavior when sending files to it.... "Sublime" my arse, "Sub par" is more like it... It REALLY does feel like a Java application built with SWING even though it allegedly isn't... and no that's not a compliment.

I really love notepad ++ for advanced users. For less experienced ones I'll suggest Dreamweaver (Still need some knowledge to use it though)

I use Aptana Studio 3 and right now is the best code editor I've used. I used to go for Dreamweaver too, but then I discovered Zen Coding addon for Aptana, and now I can't see myself going back.
