StatCounter is the best free analytics software on the webthen Google Analytics.. You’ll also find that many news or media corporations use StatCounter. It may be an anti-Google thing as Google Analytics is the big kid on the block when it comes to website statistics but StatCounter is not to be sneezed at.

TBH for all it's faults Analytics is what I'd go with. The options it gives you are so useful. It has been a while since I used statcounter because things like Events, Experiments and Real-time tracking make Analytics brilliant to work with.

The link to the Webmaster tools data has been a huge positive for me too.

The only thing I don't like is the csv data export which is garbage compared to the old version

As per my experience that I felt with both of these programs, Statcounter is good.

Comparing both programs, stat counter had some features attractive, but stat counter lags on features like
    1)Mobile Tracking
    2)Browser Support

Rest all features of "stat counter" gives a tough fight to GA

I'll prefer Google Analytic, also we are using it on our site. Beside, all every product and tool have some distinct points on behalf of it's services.
