    I use ahrefs, just a personal choice. The best are all pretty much the same, the best advice is don't waste to much time deciding, go out and subscribe to one and use your time checking backlinks!

    to check baclinks for a website - there are various tools on the net- Google webmaster tools(most prefer tools free) , backlinkwatch etc. Or you can check manually using google command- link:wwwdotsitedotcom

    Seems to me that backlinkwatch has a lot of old links that don't exist anymore, Anyone know which tool has the most up to date index? I'm guessing there probably are no free options for this.
