Sudden Drop Of Keyword Ranking After Changing The Content

    Hey guys,

I had a site whose keywords were in top 10 but suddenly they have reached to 250 and above. And from past three days the ranking is continuously dropping. The strange thing is I haven't done anything different to the back linking efforts. Only the thing is that I have changed is the content of site keeping in mind not to do the stuffing of the keywords. And content was changed a month ago. Is this due to Content? Will the position be gained again?
    Please Suggest

    Thanks

Friend, after 17th January'13 many webmaster have faced this same problem. I am not sure but I think there may be some Google Algorithm Update on process, so don't worry if your content is good you will get your old ranking, I hope.

This is your first problem, then, as there is a lot of information available (on forums, blogs, etc) about the latest update. You don't know how to search (or see what's staring you in the face). Start by reading about all of the Panda updates (not just the latest) and then you'll understand how to fix your site. A good place to start is Search Engine Land and then research some "case studies", so you can have a balanced view rather than just one, which might be uninformed. You're going to have a hard time though if you don't open your eyes a bit more.

    Good luck.

You shouldn't change content if once it pucks up... try improving ranking by posting more content and building slow link building!

Your site dropped in search engine may be by your recent added content or google recent minor algo. update. I will suggest you to not totally depend on google or other search engines. Share your site on all the places in this web world. Make your company profile on every useful place where people are related to your business.

    New update

The new thing now is that I have got back the lost backlinks but the ranking is continuously dropping. Some of them told that my site was hit by the update that occurred on the 22nd of Jan 13. So they suggested me to remove all the directory and social bookmarking links. For removing these links they suggested the Google disavow link tool. So my question is that should I use this tool and filtered the low quality backlinks coming from these sites and then upload them by using the tool. Will it really help?

    Thanks

There is no doubt that many out there have lost ranking after January 13th and January 17th. Google has not announced any thing professionally for any update and is denying for any update. On the other hand many out there are facing Google Ranking Fluctuation on the daily basis. What I will personally recommend you about your change is to replace new contents with the old one for now and wait Google company to crawl your website and then see results.

With the new contents you should make it sure that density of your keywords is same like it was before with old contents.

Download a copy of your backlinks from Google Webmaster Tools. Import the file into Excel.

Remove from the list any backlinks:
    • You did not pay for.
    • You did not build yourself.
    • From high quality social bookmarking sites (such as Stumble Upon, Delicious, etc).
So you should be left with a list of crappy, spammy links.

For web 2.0s, .edu, .gov and similar make spam reports to those sites. Don't say it's about your website, just a concerned internet user who saw this spam and is reporting it.

As for directories, send off a template email to each one. (Usually they will at least have a contact form.) You could keep some directory links, such as ones for niche or local directories. Just avoid directories that accept links from any website (free or paid).

For the low quality Pligg sites, you're probably wasting your time. Set these aside for your disavow list.

Article sites are again a waste of time, but these also disappear quickly anyway when people realise what. Just add these to your disavow list.

Social media is mostly nofollow, but if these links are from spammy profiles (just tweeting/posting links all of the time and fake followers), then make spam reports to get them shut down.

So, for the rest of the link types apply a similar approach. The more effort you put in, the higher chance of you have of digging yourself out of this hole. The final thing is to disavow using Google's disavow link tool any of the links you've been unable to remove.

Now are you sure it's just the Google update? Have you checked Google Webmaster Tools for a manual penalty notification?

No notification but few webmasters experience says this. As you mention above that remove links from From high quality social bookmarking sites (such as Stumble Upon, Delicious, etc). But don't you think these are good ones?

    Thanks
