    Hello,

i currently own a gaming news and review website and am thinking of changing themes. I currently use the Leetpress gaming theme and want to switch to Apollo modern magazine theme. In Leetpress there is a review system and so is there in Apollo, how can i find out if they are compatible? if i activate Apollo will i lose all my data on the Review posts?

How about plugins? do i lose the settings? specially Wordpress SEO from Yoast... also, will i lose the things i have written on every post on the Yoast SEO plugin? (like the title, description and tags) ?

    Any help is welcome!

Copy your site locally. Replace the theme. All your questions will be answered without affecting the real site.

As far as SEO, no one can really answer the question except the people at Google who write the SEO criteria, and they'll never tell anyone what those criteria are. (SEO is 99% guesswork and 50% magic.)

I completely agree with your point. As an SEO Specialist, I am trying to come up with quality content to keep my clients satisfied. Yes, SEO is 99% guesswork and 50% magic.

SEO is so ever changing but if you keep diversified it certainly helps smooth out the bumps from algorithm changes.

    Hey Dex,

You will likely loose most of the settings having to do with reviews because the custom field names that each theme uses is probably different. You can use this plugin to edit the custom fields from the old plugin so that they line up with the new one, but it's better to test this on a site that isn't live so you can get figure out how exactly the plugin works and what all the custom fields are

This is exactly why I'm not very fond with those "all in one premium themes". You know, the ones who register custom post types, taxonomy, shortcodes, handle your SEO, and other gazillion features. Using these themes are like using steroids, you feel great when on it but once you take it off you'll be wrecked.

If a feature is really important for your site then never let theme handle it, use plugin instead so you won't lose it when you switch themes.

how do u expect a theme to operate without all these? that's theme level work, except for the SEO part which is plugin area.

A public theme, free or paid, is supposed to pull data from the database and display it, that's it. Adding features is plugin job, especially if there is a chance user wants to keep that feature after switching to other themes.

One of the best thing from WordPress is it's modularity, you install WordPress, pick a theme, several plugins and you’re good to go. If you want to change the look and feel of your website, replace the theme. Want to add or remove some functionality? Add or remove plugins. That's how it's supposed to work.

it's only going to work on crappy looking themes. you will have a plugin for a slider right, that plugin will use say a meta key and value, but the looks of the plugin's slider wont consist the looks of your theme.

    but there's more to it.

    Hello,

If u change wordpress theme. You never loss ur existing posts & plugins. Only your layout re-design it. And extra features also you add it.
