With all the data out there that CLEARLY explains Page Rank was dropped by Google...what, maybe 5 years ago now? Why do all these supposed Webmasters still believe PR can drive anything? There are sites out there with a PR 9 that are 2 months old with scraped content, cloaked (or redirected) dynamic web pages from Amazon / iTunes / whatever... that clearly will never rank for even their own domain... What are you thoughts? Would love to hear from people that think Page Rank is still important and WHY you think it is.... and then, go ahead and google "domain authority" or "page authority" right after you tell me why Page Rank is important.
so the PR its oldschool now? so may happened then since I was remember got 6 PR at my old site lol. it was 5years ago.
It is one of the hard numbers people get directly from the source. Although it isn't fool proof, it gives some indication. From what I have seen, websites with high PR tend to rank higher than ones with low PR. It isn't always the case though.
I think the reason why people are so preoccupied with their PR toolbar is because some finds it still as one of the major ranking signals. And then, there are many SEO industrialist, for whom it acts as a beckon for showcasing their work.
PR actually indicates the authority of a page though it does not have much to do with traffic. When a webmaster see that one of his page got high PR, he gets a kind of mental satisfaction about the content of that page. This is what makes people so worried about PR.
Good PR gives a satisfactory view about the overall quality of a website, though it doesn't necessarily mean good traffic.
